with the 65mm calipers and 40mm calipers

rotors should be interchangable on most current and recent ducs. exceptions i can think of are the 749/999, multistrada and "R" bikes with corse rotors.
SS, ST, monster, 748/916/996/998 should all be swappable between standard models.

thanks strati that helps a little

I guess what im really wondering if I can buy the axis full float iron rotors and fit them with my 40mm single pin calipers or if I should pick up a set of twin pins and a gp master cylinder.

I have been debating this for to long I really hate my old school brakes and want a hella of a lot more braking power.

do you guys think that the twin pins are much better than the single and are the four pads that much better than the twin pins.

sorry

Hi Scott, thanks for the plug...

The Axis rotor answer is yes. They are the same discs for 40mm and 65mm.

With the "superlight" rotors that preceeded the Axis, there were 3 different blades. One for the 40mm mount calipers, a slightly narrower one for the 65s, and then the "narrow band" ones for bad ass calipers.

My 96 916 had the 40 mm single pin calipers, and with the BT iron rotors & 19x20 GP pump, the brakes were amazing. And that was with the old school Ferodo CP901 pads (much like today's "Platinum" pads).

IMHo, the difference between 40mm single pin and 65mm twin pin calipres is not worth the hassle to change the forks.

Thanks chris

Do you think it would be worth it if I could get a set of snowflake rotors and twin pins for around $400?

Then I would just have to buy the 65mm Adapter $100 and master $230

Total of $730

thanks again

I think the biggest improvement I made to my race bike was the radial master cylinder. Amazing. In fact, I spent a lot of time talking w/Chris about it.

I had that same setup you're talking about and it's for sale as I'm parting out my 996 race bike. You can check it out here: http://www.patandstacy.com/996.html. If you're interested, I'll cut you a package deal and since your in AZ, there won't be any shipping changes, we can meet up some place.

Biggest improvement on my '95-916 was going to the 65mm offset 4 pad calipers w/mounting adapters. These are a noticeable improvement even with the stock master cylinder.

If you're going to change calipers at all, you might as well get the good stuff. There's very little difference between the single pin or 2 pin caliper versions.
