On the race bikes they have an oval plug that goes in there so yes you can change the plug to adjust the swingarm pivot position. They don't put that on any street bikes that I know of so on the 999 it is an affectation.

"Affectation" Wow! that is some kind of big word, I looked it up.
I wonder if anyone knows just what the manipulation of this affectation actually would do. It would change the swingarm angle but what effect would this have?
I wonder----- would someone else please try changing it around and let me know.
Thanks

I will also add that even if you had an alternate set of pucks to change the pivot point you can't use them anyway. The hole in the cases that the swingarm pivot goes through does not have pucks and therefore would not line up.

So-----it would appear what we have here is a dead end. All is lost all is vanity.
There will be wailing and gnashing of teeth.
Open letter to Ducati,
I suggest that in the area of the swing arm "Affectation" that you would place a small silver screw with a socket for which there is no bit. Think of the possibilities of owner communications and web site discusions centered primarily on Ducati and it's high tech forward thinking engineering. Of course the screw would not be connected to anything or have any effect what so ever thus saving time and money in production costs.

why not bore the cases to accomodate? shouldn't be that bad if anybody would care to experiment.

WSB rules require the bikes frame start as a stock street frame but it can be modified. In Ducatis case they make a special "stock street" bike like a 999R and put a special frame (CrMo and other changes) on it. Those oval bosses (I am guessing here) can probably be modified for inserts and along with boring the case holes oval would then allow for a change in swingarm pivot position. A higher position would increase the swingarm angle but leave the engine lower. I don't know what effect that would have.

Assuming you make the appropriate adjustment to your pushrod to maintain the same ride height:

Raising the swingarm pivot will result in less 'squat' under power, IE the rear suspension will compress less for a given amount of power being applied.

It also changes the arc of the wheel travel relative to the bike. Higher pivot will make the wheel move rearward more as the suspension compresses. This moves the weight distribution more toward the front wheel as the suspension compresses.

Also changes the geometry of the shock/rocker/pushod mechanism. This will make the suspension more progressive.

IMO, it's pretty much down to a 'rider preference' adjustment.
