Default Another computer swap question.

Well we settled the argument regarding using a 916sps p8 case with a 1.6 ecu set up and found out it won't work due to the slightly different postion of the RPM sensor. Now here's the question. The 916sps left cover I was using was the magnesium type that came with the engine. I swapped everything else internally to make it work and it worked when we put on my friend Mikes 916 1.6 ecu single sensor case off his 98 916 motor. Now my question is. Will a stock two sensor case off a p8 work if I just cover the aft sensor hole or will I run into the same problem that I did with the SPS cover? I figured out that the one I need was particular to the 1998 superbikes. This was the only year I know of where the electrical system was still two phase and the 1.6 ecu was introduced. This is how I figured I need a 1998 case. Anyone care to offer any advice or better yet have a 1998 superbike left side cover lying around.

you need a single pick up alternator cover running the two phase alternator? 916 '95 - '98, 748 '95 - '98 and st2 '97 - '98. there's heaps on ebay. 1.6m came out in '95.

all p8 covers will have the pick ups in the same place, ally or mag. the up to '98 2 phase water cooled covers have the flywheel pick up hole cast but not machined and the timing shaft pick up area is flat and machined much bigger than needed to allow for the possible p8 usage i expect. i did a '98 st2 today and took notice.
