Default Has anybody tried the 57mm exhaust on the 749r

As you can see I still have the stock exhaust. I'm worried that 57mm is too large.

I've just got a 749R and have ordered the 57mm Termi Ti System too. In what respect do you think it might be too large? Physically there is no problem with it fitting unlike the 60mm Silmotor and 62.5mm Corsa systems.

If you're worried about the diameter of the pipe being too large for the engine I would doubt it since everything that I've seen about the Testastrettas indicates that they do well with huge exhaust diameters unlike the SPS which got better midrange at the expense of top end.

I will post up dyno results when I do get mine though. Anyone else got anything?

What sort of problems with fitting besides just fitting have people had with the Silmotor exhaust systems? Fitting problems where? I have been thinking about getting a Silmotor exhaust system for the new 2004 999R.

Yeah, I want more power and sound. I am just a little worried that 57mm maybe too large and would screw-up the perfectly balanced powerband the motor has.

I would seriously doubt it if you get it set up on the dyno properly. If anything it will most likely smoothen the powerband.

When I put the 60mm Silmotor on my 2003 999S I gained power everywhere from 5000RPM and improved the already lovely delivery. Thing is the catalytic convertor and emissions regs are not going to do the bikes power delivery any favours cause there are definite manufacturer compromises to be made here. Having a custom dyno set-up if done properly can really only improve it. If bucks aren't the problem, go for it!

Also if you look at the torque curve of the standard 749R, it's hardly what you would call flat- lots of room for improvement.

The 57mm Termis have rubbed a good bit of alloy off the swingarm of my '03 999R. They hit where the pipes swoop up past the swingarm toward the tail. Mechanic said (surprise), "They all do it." I have seen the problem on others. Make sure your install is a proper one.

We put a 57mm system on a 749R last week. We have not had it on a dyno yet, but the SOP dyno says it has not lost any bottom end.

It does come with shorter velocity stacks also.

Oh, did I mention it sounds sweeeeeeeeet!

I'd be reaaally interested in seeing the dyno numbers when you get them Section8. Did the CF heel guard come with it too? I notice that you need spacers for the right hand footpeg to clear the exhaust.

Not only do you need spacers for the footpeg, you need them for the rear brake master cylinder! It comes with everything you need including the heat shield.

that should help the bottom end.

Jason thanks for the pictures!
Those are some nice shots of the construction of the pipe!
It's funny how you can look at a set of pipes and see if it's worth the hype. Or just how efficient the design flows!

Thanks..........

Have you been to Bologna where they make these things?? I was expecting some serious tech and got a bunch of pre-war buildings with dodgy windows instead. And everything in Italy is outrageously expensive. It's amazing to me that they produce bikes like this there and that the prices aren't even higher.

Proper quality welding?? [Italian Accent]S'no prablem, 12,000 euro only[/Italian Accent]

Is that exhaust the same for the '05 749s? If so, I wouldn't mind getting my hands on one at some point. I was going to have one put on the bike when I bought it, but they were not yet available. I assume they are available now, but can't see them on any of the usual websites. who has them, and what are they charging?

Cheers

That's odd, to me - as it seems to be the opposite of conventional theory....where shorter intakes = raises the RPM at which torque is developed; longer = more low-end.

I wouldn't put it passed a Ducati to act in the opposite manner, though!

you're 100% correct. shorter = more higher rpm stuff.

longer = faster intake air velocity in lower rpms = torqier, but sort of "suffocates" in the higher rpms.
