Default Chain lube? Not for me

Was wondering what everyone's opinion is on lubing the chain. A friend of mine who worked on Team Yoshimura Suzuki has always been adamant that a o-ring sealed chain is good to go. We have not lubed a chain in over four years with
no ill effects.

P.S. Keeps a clean bike

Interesting. Never thought of this. I know when I brought the bike in for service last summer the technician said "I can hear your chain". "Will lube it while it is on the stand". Guess my every 500 miles five minute clean/lube wasn't perfect. Good to know it works for some not to lube. I'll probably stick with my simple five minute job every 500 miles. Rarely any crud on the rear wheel from this. Maybe it doesn't help much. Probably doesn't hurt and my chains on a variety of bikes last long and look good.

Yup, there is no need to lube O-ring chains, the lube just gets slung all over your bike and none gets inside past the o-rings. Put some chain wax on it to keep it from rusting and clean it with wd-40 if it gets dirty. sfarson, wax will do the same job keeping it quite and its not as messy and last longer.

My 999 is shaft drive.
I dont worry about sticky icky lubes.I dont buy chains and constantly clean the filth off my bike.
I just check the oil and go.

Come on Scott! A winter chain lube Jihad keeps everyone warm. ;-)

My .002. Keep it clean and lightly lubed, every 500 miles. There's more to the chain system than just the roller pins inside where the o-ring keeps the grease.

Race bikes and street bikes have very little in common. What's good for one isn't likely good for the other.

What kind of wax would you recommend, MKIA?

I suspect my hair wax won't do the job

would agree on the waxing. no need for lube. As for race bikes though. I'd suspect they rarely put many miles on a chain anyhow so I don't know if I'd follow that as gospel.
