Default one cylinder running richer than the other?

started up the bike today and was getting exhaust "smoke" (so to speak because it was cold) from one side of the exhaust but not the other.. i'm going to guess one cylinder is running richer than the other. can this be compensated for in anyway? is PC3 USB capable of adjusting the fuel trim for each cylinder individually?

There is a "crossover" at the mid pipe. The exhaust is not totally seperate from each other. Smoke when cold could be alot of things. Unless you are fouling plugs or "using" oil I wouldn't think it's a problem.
P.S. Didn't know you had a 749. Sorry

Could just be more condesation in one pipe that the other also.

I will agree one cylinder runs richer than the other, but not enough to mess with.

I have a 2002 998 and I also bought a PC III USB and had Dyno Jet themselves and had them make me a map here in Vegas.
Also to awnser you question...Yes the PC III tunes each cylinder so would be like dynoing it for each cylinder before you get the HP / TQ #s.

nah, not condensation.

if its not enough difference to mess with then its good enough for me.

998 - awesome, thanks, I'll keep that in mind.

BTW jason got the clutch slave installed. You also need a 9mm wrench for the new bleeder, and white grease.

On a 999
I am thinking it would be the right pipe, yes,no? I have seen the same thing and determined it was that the right pipe because it is the front cylinder. I figure it takes longer to heat all of that pipe up as opposed to the rear cylinder resulting in more water vapor and a longer time to heat it out of the system. After a bit it heats out and all is as it should be. You will notice that the left blow hole is hotter because it is shorter when you first start up than the right.
I hope this is what is happening for you and there is no proplem. I only noticed this when it was cold out. This is an example of how much water vapor comes out of the combustion process and why it is so important to not start your bike or car for that matter and not bring it up to opperating temperature. All of that water vapor will cause some mean corrosion problems I am sure.
Good Luck!

yes, its coming out of the front cylinder. i figured it was vapor, but it was doing that after fully warmed up and running a bit... i guess it could still be vapot as its raining here.

Dark smoke would be bad, rich. How is your coolent level? Is it staying at the correct level. If so I would think that it is just water vapor from combustion and not worry.

Next, Cylinder to Cylinder Variation:

http://www.visi.com/~moperfser...s.htm

A PCIII serial can trim cylinder to cylinder plus or minus X% over whatever map is loaded. A PCIII USB can be mapped cylinder to cylinder independent of one another. Probably cost twice as much to do...

Neil Freeman, who is currently in Italy building race engines for Ducati, told me it was typical for the rear cylinder to run richer than the front...

I would not loose any sleep over it. Have a cold beer and wipe your bike down, say good night and have another beer.
