Default Speedo drive on Marchesini

2001 748.
Swapping over from stock to a Marchesini front. Is there anything special about the speedo drive on the Marchesini? I can't get the ring out of the stock wheel that drives the speedo. Do I leave that ring in the stock wheel and get some other adapter that drives the speedo on the new wheel?

Any help?

Should pop out with minimum amount of prying, just do a little on each side and work your way around.

The dust shield should come out with careful prying but I would just replace it. I'm looking at a spare and the P/N is 000064471, Seal Ring.

James, you just pry the retainer ring out and use the stock one. On some Marchesini wheels the drive tabs don't fit. Just file enough off till the speedo drive ring fits down in the machined out area of the Marchesini.

Hi Phil.
Just doing a search because I can't get the tangs to line up on my 10-spokes.Is this the trick to use to make the stock drive work??
Thanks!
Carlos.

If memory serves, the machined area on the Marchesini wheels is kind of a round shape and the two tabs on the speedo drive ring are a rectangle shape. I just filed the corners of the ring until it fit in the Marchesini and then put the original dust seal in.

Thanks Phil,
I just have to get the wheels off the bike, but it's soo hard 'cause I just keep GAUKING at my ride
So the inner ring will come out?
I was afraid that I was gonna snap off the ring and then a trip to the dealer for an overpriced speedo drive that's not in stock and I would have to wait 6 weeks for then the sun comes out and I still don't have the..........
Aw hell, let me do this now.
THANKS PHIL!!

Hang on Carlos, the part I'm talking about is under a seal ring in your stock wheel. I am not talking about the speedo unit that the axle goes through and the cable goes into. That part gets left alone. Phil

I'm not Phil, but I am a hell of a lot better looking and I have this pic:

Yes... part #7 (speedo drive caspin) and part #6 (drive seal) should have been taken off the old wheel.

Kind of a hijack but this thread reminded me.

If I buy Marcesini Mags they come with bearings and all the stuff I need to mount them, right?

I just need to swap over my disks and this speedo drive thingy and I'm good to go, correct?

Correct. Sometimes you don't get new aluminum valve stems and they are about $25 for the pair.
