Default Rearsets for ST4S...

Hey guys...

I want to solicit an opinion... I own/ride an '02 ST4S and tend to ride in a more Sport than Touring style, although I haven't had this bike on the track. I ride a Ducati SS 900 for that, but I digress... Anyway,

I was looking at the Cycle Cat site with a listing of products available and have to say I was blown away with what they offer. What especially caught my eye were the Rearsets that are available for the ST4/ST4S. I guess I'm wondering if you think it would be worth the expense to put a set of these on the bike. It certainly seems like the riding postion/peg position can be dialed in to each indivdual rider, not to mention a much sportier posture. Perhaps these combined with the Cycle Cat Multi-Adjustable Bar Mounting System would give the venerable ST4S a super sport bike posture, but retain everything else we love about this bike.

I have already upgraded in the exhaust department... CF Termignonis, I love 'em!... and a Sargent World Sport Saddle... I was thinking that the Rearsets and Bars would complete this bike nicely, once again, while retaining it's Sport/Tourer application. Just lean a little heavier on the Sport end of things. Thoughts... Opinions?

I've been eyeballing them for quite some time. They are gorgeous indeed and appear to be infinitly adjustable. The price is what's keeping me at bay for the moment. But I know I'll eventually give in.

I love their triple clamp and risers too, very slick. Cycle Cat makes quality gear, excellent materials as well as fit and finish. I've never heard anything negative about any of the their gear. I only have a clutch cover on my ST, but a buddy of mine has quite a bit more on his S4. The Ti finish is awsome.

But hoe-hum, I've gotta save up before I can get them, and it's hard to do with little ones around the house. Most of the disposable income goes toward my girls, all 3 of them.

Well thanks Gilbert! That's what I was looking for... someone that either HAS bought/installed Cycle Cat parts on their ST4S,... ( or related model )... or knows someone who has.

Agreed, the price is a bit up there, but the quality just seemed to be top shelf. Let's see: The Rearsets at $545.00, plus the MA Bar Mounting System at $395.00, for a total of: $940.00... But,

I bet worth it for dialing in the bike with a more sporty riding position. Although, let me flip flop a tad on myself here: When it comes to RESALE, meaning, if one does decide to part with their bike to get another one, you never seem to get your money back on mods. So,

I like 'em a lot... perhaps a bit more thought is in order before I pull the trigger. But I have to tell you, my trigger finger is trembling!

Is that you Martin?

I would love to say I'll take it for 20% off, but I know thats pushing it. But if you tell me you'll knock off 15% for the rear sets, then I'll say sold!! Gimme gimme gimme.

My last bike was a 2002 ST4s. I bought so my GF could ride with me. I'd always had SBK's so I was a bit skeptical about the whole situation. Anyway, I immediately modified the Basic suspension settings, found on a couple of ST forums. Took it to a shop to jack the rear ride height to the suggested +10mm, installed the Cycle Cat clip-on adapters to get back to a more aggressive/familiar position, cut the air box, installed a license plate relocater kit and took it to the track.

I crashed a few months ago (hard), now GF doesn't want to ride. Bought a 999, but I miss the versatility of the ST.

You might want to take a look on these rearsets
http://www.desmodromics.co.nz/mr_tech.htm
Also available directly from the manufacturer, but the site is in german only

The technical approach is quite similar, with a greater range of adjustment through the option of different arm lengths. You have to specify in which relative position you want the have the new rearsets and they send the corresponding arm. And the style is somewhat less bulky IMHO.
I have no personal experience with these rearsets but I'm looking forward to get my order delivered shortly, all the reviews I know about are enthousiasmic though.
Since I happened to loose the option of gearchanging after a otherwise harmless crash because the end of the gear-lever broke, I ordered also the "retractable"-option for the gear and the brake lever.
The price-list is here
