I've discovered a way to speed up the break-in time on my too-hard Corbin for my Ducati ST3. I got a rubber mallet, covered the seat with a towel, and whacked the hell out of it for about 10 minutes each day for a few days. Much better now.
I think I might seriously give the mallet a try - especially before my fall trip. I did a few thousand mile trip last fall on a brand new Corbin and my butt is still sore - no exaggeration.
This past weekend I got a few hundred (mostly wet) miles on it and it did seem to have improved some.
I did 2,000 mile roundtrip to Road America last weekend, how long does it take for this seat to break-in? The Sargent on my monster was broke in almost immediately.
I got tired of waiting for it to break in...so...I sold it and bought a Sargent. Better fit and shape. IMHO...BTW when I mentioned to Sargent why I was getting their saddle..they stated that they call the Corbins..Concrete Corbin!!
I can't see why you would want to put a Corbin seat on an ST3. I have a 04 ST4S which has the new style Ducati seat which I think is the same on the ST3 (at least it is here in Australia) and I find it to be the best seat I have ever had on a motorbike, and I have had quite a few. I do not have a problem with the seat even after 800klm rides.
Ditto, SO now wants to ride on one of the sportbikes in addition to the cruiser, the monster did not seem like a good option, which has a sargent seat on it. So I bought the Corbin with the backrest for the ST3, if it does not break in soon going to get the Sargent and use the Corbin only for 2-up rides. A riding buddy has the stock seat and says that it is only good for about 400 miles before it starts to bother him.
You'd think Corbin would check out some of these boards and get the message. After I'd had mine a couple of weeks I emailed them and listed all the things I didn't like about the seat. No reply. That was five months ago.
I think Corbin started out making seats for Harley-Davidsons, and in that type of application it works fine. I used to own a Road King and the Corbin was ten times better than stock. But the seating position is so much different on a sportier bike. On the Harley, you're sitting back in the seat, in a dish. On a sportbike, you're up against the tank, riding on a smaller portion of seat. That hard Corbin foam doesn't work for that.
So checked out the Sargent today, need the stock latch to transfer over to the Sargent. Problem is I used it for the Corbin, so if I'm going to have both seats I now have to order the latch. By the time that part comes in from Ducati maybe the Corbin will have broken in. Did about 400 miles yesterday with SO on the back, did not carve the heart out of the mountains but did a pretty good pace, she was happy with seat and backrest, not with late braking for the turns though. Anyway, guess I'll order the latch so I can switch seats when I take long solo trips.
Does anybody have any expereince with the DP comfort seat? How does it compare to the sargent? Also I cannot find a part number for the seat post that mounts to the bottom of the seat and goes into the seat latch, had to use the one off of the stock seat to mount the Corbin seat. To switch back to stock I would have to unbolt and remount the post, kind of a pain.
Hmmm, maybe I have an ironbutt (no pun intended) but what's wrong with the stock saddle? I did close to 1100 miles in two days, I was super comfy. I have a ST3 05, stock is fine with me.

The stock seat on my '01 was terrible. The Sargent replacement was broken-in in one day. Great seat, great fit, reasonable price. Four years later and it's still fine and looks like new. Sargent has replacement seats figured out!
