Default Aftermarket bars

Hi, just did my first long trip on my 2004 ST3 and am suffering from an incredibly sore neck, back and arms - never had anything like this before! (My previous ride was a RC51, which I was very comfortable on) My question is - has anyone fitted aftermarket bars and if so could you offer any advice, reccomendations please?
Thanks in advance,
Cheers,
Mike

Hey Mike, I'm gonna go with the Spiegler bar conversion real soon. I can't recommend them %100, sorry, but they have made a HUGE difference in a friend's 900sscr-monster fun factor. Try the 1" peg lowering from LT as well. Did you have Heli bars on your '51?

Hi, thanks for the info, no, I did not have Heli-Bars on the 51 and have just received Heli-Bars for the ST3. When I have them on and done a little riding I will post my impressions. Heli-Modified were great to deal with, ordered them on the net with absolutely no problems and fast delivery. Quality appears excellent. Also ordered a Sargeant seat but had to go through the Canadian dealers - one month back today and still have not received it.

Try Cycle Cat system. See thread http://speedzilla.zeroforum.co...41592. My bike is an 04, but they have systems for ealier years. Very nice, tons of adjustability to get exactly what setting you want.

I'm putting on the Cycle Cat risers this week, I'm 5'9" with a 32/33 sleeve length and wanted just a little more height. The cycle cat gives you up to 1 1/2" more height and ought to position the weight on your butt differently. I'll report back after I have put some miles on it.

mbm,
Any updates on the Heli-bars?

I'm looking for setup advice, I've got a new ST3 and it's killing my palms and wrist. I'm also experiencing some slight neck stiffness. The hand and wrists are so sore right now I've got to take a few days off from riding - not cool .

On the up-side, my back feels good even after long rides. I moved over from a Road King and that thing killed my back after two or three hours. I don't want to fix one problem but create another.

Thanks!

Hi Mark, I have had the Heli-Bar risers on the bike now for about a month - but have been away from home working, and have only a few miles on the bike with them, however, so far I am very favourably impressed. Am going for a decent ride tomorrow and will be able to give you a better evaluation then. I think the improvement is well worth it, so far. Also got a Sargeant seat at the same time - looks great, but so far I don't think a great improvement on the stock seat, which is pretty good anyway.
Cheers,
Mike

Mike,
Thanks, I look forward to hearing how you like the heli-bars. Also, have you found the bars easy to install and adjust? I'm probably going to let the shop install them if I go that way, but of course I'll be making adjustments as required.

2VTWIN,
How do you like the Cycle Cat risers?

Mark

Hi Mark, the Heli Bar risers have made a huge difference and the Sargent seat is very nice also. I would definitaly reccomend this mod if the stock set-up is a pain. The quality is excellent. I had the shop fit the risers as I thought a special tool was required for the center steering cover and I didn't want to damage it. Was not that expensive.
Cheers,
Mike

Mike,
Good to hear you like the bars and seat. At my 1K mile service I'm going to add the Heli-bars, drop the foot pegs a few inches, change front and rear sprockes (-1,+2), new slip-ons, air filter, ecu. I want to go with a Remus cans, but I'm not sure they'll fit an 05 ST3. I'll let the shop do the install work.

I'm not sure which direction I'll go with the seat. The stock seat isn't too bad. My wife and son want a backrest (gak!) so I may get the Corbin for two up riding and use the stock seat for solo.

Now if I can just sell the damn HD.

Mark
