Default st3 adjusting back suspension

hi people..just a quick question,i want to set more preload on the back spring but find it impossible to get the c spanner to fit the ring on the top of the suspension,it seems its poissible to adjust it towards a softer option which i did earlier,but the frame gets in the way from whichever angle i try........does any body out there know of a simple remidy ????

Excellent question. Both I and a buddy of mine couldn't figure it out on my bike either. There's just no room.

yea tbird,ended up using a large screwdiver and hammer.............a soft small billet of aluminium would be better to avoid damage to the segments on the ring........what is this for crap anyway,i would expect this on my sons bicycle from spears and roebuck....................its not as though the motorcycle is cheap throw away stuff from chequaslovakia.........cant even spell the name

It is possible to use the c spanner. Difficult, but possible. Check with the shock manufacturer, somtimes they have very thin spanners that may fit.

Had the seat off this weekend and I noticed that if you remove the black plastic tray that's in the front you may be able to get at it that way. Haven't tried it yet though.

I really like the 3 except for that rear stock which is just plain stupid so I'm checking out the cost of an Ohlins which may be around $800. Also stupid cause thats about half the difference between a 3 and a 4s. If you need to change the pre-load frequently for a pillion it's a major PITA.
