Default Servicing Forks

Just checking the maintenance records and it's been 4 years since Lindemann did my forks. Time to change the oil. Lindemann offers a "routine fork service" for around $135 including new oil, new seals, and a full inspection.

Does anyone just change the oil in their forks, say once a year or so? Is it a difficult procedure? My shop manual says nothing about fork oil changing, and it appears you have to remove the forks and disassemble them just to change the freakin' oil. THX.

The best way is to completely disassembly the forks for a complete, thorough inspection. If you have had no service done to them in 4 years, replacing the seals now is a lot cheaper, including headache time, than replacing them in 1k miles when they decide to start leaking for no apparent reason. Having a certified tech do this work is always nice, as small changes in fork oil level, compression/rebound adjustments and overall proper reassembly, makes all the difference. Cleanliness is next to godliness especially when it comes to suspension. If I remember correctly www.ducshop.com was running a special for servicing suspension. Its not a difficult process, but suspension experts make all the difference

I agree that a suspension specialty shop is the way to go in many cases. But all I want to do is change fork oil once a year between visits to the suspension shop (every 3 or 4 years). I found an article on how to just change oil, and it looks pretty easy but you do have to pull the forks apart. Thanks.
