Default Possible upgrades

Hey ya'll,
I got a '00 ST4 yellow with around 26K and I was thinking about a new bike this year. However, I don't think I want to blow a big wad of cash just yet. Might have to get a new car this year also. Anyways, my ST is pretty sound and its paid for. So I thought I would look into some upgrades of all sorts. I am looking for Ideas and values. I think I will be purchasing some bar risers to make it a little more comfortable (I am getting older and planning on a ride to the Rockies this summer).
So what are the good and easy to install risers out there?
What performance options are available for a stock '00 ST4? I was thinking maybe a little more HP and new exhaust cans.
Let me know of any other upgrades that you all have done, performance or comfort and what you think of them.

Happy New Year

You can get 1/2" bar risers from Fast by Feracci that install easilly (unless one of your lower bolt-heads strip out like mine did) for about $50. Check Ebay for exhaust cans and you'll save significant cash. Add a performance chip, open the air box and install a performance filter and your headed in the right direction.

That's a good list of bang-for-the-buck mods. I added the (inexpensive) footpeg lowering kit from Desmo Times and the one inch makes a nice improvement. The exhaust and pegs do not scrape any sooner in the turns, at least at my moderate street pace.

Get the Ulti-Map chip and have a good shop carefully set it up on a dyno once you install the slip-ons, air filter, and modified air box lid. These Ducati really respond well to proper fuel injection set up.

A Sargent seat is nice.

For engine power you really have to stop there unless you're willing to spend more money and get into headwork and cams and/or pistons. It can get expensive, but I did it and I couldn't be happier with the end result.

In my opinion a good chip, slip-ons, air box/filter, and a really good dyno tune up by a good shop is the first step. Some people go to a 14 tooth countershaft sprocket too.

I added heli-bars to my ST3 and I'm quite pleased. They brought the bars up 1 3/4" and back 1 1/2", this was a big improvement. I also added a zero gravity ST windscreen to raise the air. Another big improvement was dropping the front sprocket -1 and adding +1 to the rear. I also dropped the pegs an inch and added Remus cans, air.

I like the footpeg lowering kit idea. The Heli bars seem nice but awfully expensive. The 1/2" risers do not seem high enough to make a difference. I was thinking of Dr. Desmo 1" riser. A little higher and a little less pricey. I need to check out the zero gravity wind screens.

As far as the chip and slipons go, I'm still looking into it. I am near section 8 and I'm sure those cats can hook me up with that stuff.

Thanks y'all

Only an inch but they make a big difference if you have long legs -

I was talking with my friend Mark Sutton from www.ducshop.com a few months ago, and he was telling me about a ST4s they had just built. It had Pistal high comp. pistons, standard 996 A1 intake cams (stock ST4s intake cams are different), a Ducati Performance slip-on exhaust system with their high flow airfilter and open air intake system. They also added a custom Powercommander (PCIII USB) to correct the extra fuel needed for superior performance. So, what was the result? How about 125rwhp!!!!!!!! Talk about taking your Sport Tourer to new levels!!!

That's A Penske shock and Eibach spring - both purchased from Lindemann Engineering however there are many other sources for both. California Cycleworks is one that comes to mind.

The spring is 800 pounds/inch. Jim Lindemann sells that particular brand, and back when I needed it he had one in stock that just happened to be red.
