So is it fair to say the one I had, albeit temporarily, that had some drop thru was the exception rather than the rule?

Nothing is standardized with Zard. Since they are a relatively new company (albeit with some people who are not new in the industry) I think they are still figuring out what they need to be doing. For example I was getting the monster cans with either black or silver end caps for a while totally at random. During this time I requested all black and was told they weren't making any black Sometimes there are instructions sometimes there are not. For a while you didn't know if you were going to get the O2 plug or not on the monster systems that didn't utilize the O2 sensor.
They seem to be doing a lot better though as time goes on and have fixed all of these small issues and more. I was impressed the first time I looked down one of their pipes and all of the welds were ground down. I had a termi system on my 748R at the time and right at the manifold it had so much material hanging over I couldn't believe it. I ground it all down myself.
As for my comment it is true of all of the systems I've looked at in the last 6 months if not more. I can't speak before that as I wasn't dealing with Zard then. This includes monster, multi, sport classic and superbike exhausts.

I don't know how much that affects flow, but it seems like it would. The thing is though, if it were messing with the power making capabilities of the pipes I would think all manufacturers would grind them down?
So maybe it isn't a big deal, I don't know.

From our almost 20 years doing this, here is what we can tell you.
Ugly is always less desireable, general rule, and it is a question of "how far" it is dropping into the flow (more is worse!). But in terms of performance from minor overhang things get a bit more grey...
Closer to the heads the more it might mean as compared to the end of the muffler. In-between on the pipe is just that, somewhere in-between...
Keep in mind these are very mildly tuned big twin motors, and "perfect efficiency" is not really their forte.
So in terms of stock motors (which have more variance from "blueprint spec" on cam profiles, timing, ignition, piston weights, etc. then you might suspect) we find that any effect minor weld slag has is marginal to overall performance.
Rather not have it at all, but cost to remove all of it does become an issue at some juncture. And in the end, a better design with minor drop through is still going to be a better performing pipe then a poor design with pretty insides.

simply outstanding
the welding style is call wagari in japanese and make the exhaust look like it was made by a craftsment instead of a robot and that is a + for me.
looks like this
Welcome to the Tigcraft Japan English website
i have wanted to find more companies to make this style as it suits bikes IMO

wow, excellent craftsmanship. for all those guys saying his welds would hinder flow and blah blah blah, are you kidding me? if you can make welds on ti look like that, your obviously not blowing through. im sure his gap, speed, and heat are spot on. Also titanium has certain bend characteristics. It is much harder to bend then say stainless. thats why alot of custom exhausts you see will be many pieces of mandrel bent pipes cut up and rewelded with different bends to get the radius right. classic case of a bunch of armchair quarterbacks talking about stuff they know nothing about. but back on topic, excellent exhaust, kudos to the builder

WOW.
But, no heat shield?
Not a criticism, just an observation.

I'll criticize it - you wouldn't catch me riding it without some kind of protection! I like the skin on my leg quite well

Ah, they did end up with a heat shield of carbon fiber...
Here is the full build - totally nuts! The heat shield is pictured towards the end.
