Default Multistrada vs. BMW 1200GS

Since there's only one post in the MS section, I can assume there aren't many adventure riders here on the board, but here goes, anyway...

I'm debating between the purchase of a Multistrada or a GS Adventure. I know the technical differences between them, but I'm looking for some real world experience with the two, for some advice.

I'll probably ride the thing "off-road" rarely, if ever. This will mainly be my "Swiss Army Bike" for long-distance touring on-road. I'm looking for long-ride comfort and good handling in the twisties.

I have a Monster 900, a 749s and a Harley Heritage Softail right now, so I'm not interested in other alternatives... Just what you might know about the riding characteristics of these two particular bikes.

I'm trying to get a test ride on both, sometime soon. But there's no substitute for real experience.

Thanks!

See if you can get a test of the new "S" model Multistrada - that looks awesome!

I'm trying to make the same evaluation right now...was looking at the 1000 ds, but by the time you make it right, you may as well go for the 1000s ds...but also curious about the bmw1200gs. I won't be off roading with it, but interested with how both bikes perform at altitude...over 5000ft.

Tom,
Haven't had mine up to Colorado yet since you're still having your winter.
But I rode mine in the Texas Hill country about 1000 miles last weekend. What a sweet ride. It can outcorner about anything but a motard on a mountain road.

Hey Nero...Probably any time after Memorial Day and the weather/roads in the high country will be ideal for riding. Been riding a lot lately, below 9000'..the bike is wonderful. Seems to attract a crowd at every stop...really hate that...NOT!!

ChromeDome, the Brit mag TWO (Two Wheels Only) reviews the MS 1000S ds this month and gives it really good reviews. You might want to stop by your local 'big box' book seller and check the article out. They show the black one with the Ohlins and it does look nice, but they say the suspension upgrade 'doesn't really matter' but what the hell, might as well get it, hey???

I have heard a few funnies about the MS but like you I would like want the real world impressions from an owner, the S would be the one I would want and seem as you have one your it!!

Lemme know your impressions wharts and all would be great.
