Default Winter Project - maybe

I'm thinking about doing a 944 upgrade to my '02 Monster 900 and converting from low mount Microns to High-mount DP pipes. The alternative would be to switch to a 1000 and move most of my goodies over. I would be interested in any comments/suggestions. Will the increased power of the upgarde be worth the cost? The 900 is silky smooth, will the 944 upgrade change that? Is there any downside to the high mount pipes? Thanks

the 944 is a great mod for the 900 2v motor. Keihin FCR carbs is also a good addition. i have both done to my bike and the result is a strong pulling, fast motorcycle.

as far as silky smooth it's not that. it has power across a v e r y w i d e rpm range if that's what you are looking for but with the bigger pistons, open airbox (do this), and gulping carbs it's all sound and fury when you crack the throttle. it's as it should be. it is as reliable as a stocker and has caused me zero trouble since the mod was performed.
i think all on this board will echo that it is a mod worth doing.
good luck.

I put a BCM 944 "kit" into my 1999 SS and have to agree that it is a huge improvement on an already nice motor. Controllable on the street and torque on demand with a crack of the throttle.

I wouldn't recommend Kehins since your bike is fuel injected and a revised fuel map and detail tuning will level any rough running. My 944 idles smoothly, accelerates agressively and decelerates without a pop or missfire.
