Default S4R (07) Sachs shock...

Is this thing able/worth to re-valve and re-spring. I'm 240 w/gear, and the bike has about 1.5" of sag when I sit on it. I can't even get fork sag measurements because the rear is doing all of the movement.

I would start with the correct spring rate for your weight. It makes a huge difference. The Showa for the S4R is a pretty decent shock and may not even need a revalve once you do the correct spring.

On my old M900Sie I had an Ohlins shock and I wasn't really impressed with it at all. When I brought the bike up to BCM to have the Race Tech gold valves and correct springs installed in the front and they talked me into doing the rear spring as well. It was night and day, like getting a completely new rear shock installed.

Also considering you weigh about 20 lbs. more than me it would make even a bigger difference.

I might try that, although I can't find anyone that sells a spring for a Sachs shock (not showa on the 07 S4R, although forks are). A few have said that it can be re-valved, but some pretty big names in the suspension industry have said there is little to no baseline data, and widely varying assembly/valving.

I was basically told to replace it.

Does the S4rs Ohlins shock have the hydro pre-load adjustment, high and low speed comp and rebound adjusters? I found a used one, but for not a lot more, I can get the high-end ohlins.

I'm not really sure if it has that adjustment. You can try Department of Suspension for the spring and the re-valve.

Heres the link for their site:

Department of Suspension

The owners name is Jason. He's a great guy and knows his shit but he can be.....how can I put this? Out there sometimes.

He's out of the shop at the track until Tuesday but give him a call and I'm sure he can hook you up with the right spring. I do know that I have found the re-valve kits online at a few different sites. I'd be surprised if Jason didn't have a source.

Good luck!
