Default Fuel Tank

I was wondering if you guys could help me out? Ive got a fuel tank for a Monster and Im trying to figure out what years and models it will fit on. Is the only way of going about getting this info at the dealership or is there somewhere online I could find this info out?

Thanx in advance!

The DML has (had?) a page with that info. Basically, there are a couple major variants...

Metal : has the removable lid and "Carrier" : has 4 or 5 metal tubes on the bottom : is injected family, 620, 800, 1000, 900, S4, S4R.
Metal : non-removable lid "carrier" and 2 metal tubes + level + threaded bung for the fuel outlet : carbureted monster 400, 600, 750, 900.

Plastic tanks started around 2004 and are definitely on the S2R800 and 1000. I do know that the S4Rs and S4R with Testa engines have different tank than S2R.

The fiches at ducati.com are an amazing resource:

thank you.

-Three screws on top around fuel cap hold the cap to the "carrier" or ring, or holder piece. 2 of the top screws are for decoration.
- 1 more screw is under the cap.
- Pull out filler cap
- look at a low angle around the edge of the remaining metal carrier/holder piece. There are a bunch of very small allen screws around the part which hold it into the tank.
- loosen said screws. it's not necessary to fully remove them. when i do these, i back them out until it seems like they're free, then screw in a couple turns
- pull up hard on metal carrier/holder piece
- remove hose from it, reach arm into the tank.

See those microfiches mentioned above? They are exploded parts diagrams for how the bike is assembled. That will help you visualize the process.

If you are needing to replace your fuel pump, we now have OEM compatible fuel pumps in stock at fair prices. While they are exact match for the newer ducatis with the "fuel flange", these pumps work perfectly fine in the metal tanks. The physical dimensions of the pump are critical for the newer "holster" style fuel flanges, while on your bike, the pump is held in place by being grasped around its body and length is not an issue.

Capacity isn't an issue at all. These pumps are designed for Ducati 3.5bar fuel rail and with the most conservative calculations, are good for 200 hp.

For the filter, you can get any thing from a local auto parts store that will fit in its place. Like the big clear Fram or Napa plastic ones. Those are great and you can see if they get trash in them.

Here's the thread on the DML.
I wrote a bunch of it, but I don't check here often.
(note to self) I really need to get some pictures of the different tanks

Ok after doing alot of research from all the helpful info you guys have givin me, it appears as if the fuel tank I have is off of a 2000/2001 FI model. I think it my be for the S4 because according to the Ducati parts catalogues thats one of the models in that year range that came in the metallic grey finish called (Anthracite). After looking online at a few places for prices on these tanks, ive come across prices ranging from ($2100.00 to $2150.00 new)! Does this sound right? The reason Im asking is because Im planning on selling it. Now the tank I have is used, but it has no dents and just a few very small chips in the finish towards the front of the tank! I know that even if those prices I found are accurate I wasnt planning on asking anywhere close to those prices. My question is what would be a respectable price to ask for this tank?

do some research on ebay and see what the final price for sold Monster tanks was. I'd imagine it's going to be anywhere from $100 - $600 depending on a few things. Condition, color and so on...

And FYI- the going rate from a dealer for a new metal tank is anywere from $1,500 - $2,200 for a regular and $3,000 for a chromo tank which are very difficult to come by.

Just make sure you include a picture of the bottom where the lines come out so that will help with some of the questions you'll get.

good luck.

I'm looking for a tank, but it has to be an Fi tank and it has to have the battery tray that lays down(horizontal)not the vertical mount battery ? meaning ,it has a larger space under the tank to accomodate the battery ? please email me at bfr1@overthetop.ca if you have this tank .

2000 and 2001 M900ie Monsters had a different tank than the 2001 S4. They dont interchange without rearranging the undertank stuff abit.

Sorry for diggin this up from the dead! I got this from a guy to do some custom paint work on it (that never happened). He gave me the tank as payment for another job. Now Id like to sell it to at least get some money for the work I did for him. The tank has no dents, but does have a few chips and scratches in the paint! I do not know if it has any leaks, as I have never had it hooked up. If anyone needs a tank, I am looking to get $200.00 plus shipping for this. PM me if interested.

That is crazy! I'd order an alloy tank from Japan for $2200.00. Even the carbon tanks go for $2400.00.
