Default RapidBike?

Anyone here ever heard of or use a Rabidbike on their Monster or Ducati in general? I have a buddy overseas and he said they are everywhere.

Yeah there has been quite a bit of discussion on the DML.

There are several members who use it and swear by it. It's a bit expensive IMO and finding someone to tune it in your area could be a challenge as well.

Good luck.

They are quite big in Europe - getting more attention here this year. Big draw is the ability to tune it for your set-up - so we're not stuck with the $1,000 non-adjustable Ducati Performance piece as the only upgrade option. Initial reports on reliability seem to be good - questionable quality was one of the drawbacks to the FIM piece, so this look like a good option.

The question I have is whether you need the red key to load it like the Ducati pieces - not sure. My dealer lost the red key to my MS4 when I had it in for service. They promised to keep looking for it, right up until I deployed to Afghanistan - at which point they promptly forgot about it.

You do not need the red key. You only need it for the DP ECU.

More on the subject, I spoke with Miles from BCM this past Thursday at a local gathering and we had a discussion regarding fueling on the S2R1K as I was having a bit of difficulty trying to get my bike (2007 S2R1K) to run right with the custom exhaust and open airbox.

I asked him if they had used the Rapid Bike up there and he pretty much said they were a "peice of shit."

For those of you who may not be familiar with BCM they are pretty much the best Ducati tuners in the country. They win the DNA service award every year and are very respected in the industry.

I would value their opinion more than most and if they say it's a POS I would tend to listen. Normally I would expect a dealer to follow up a statement like that with..."but what we have is....." but it never happened. He was not trying to sell me something they use/sell. In fact he pretty much said that short of a DP ECU and a PCIII there are no other options for aftermarket products.

All that being said I have found an acceptable solution to my fueling problems.
I'm sure most of you know about removing the O2 sensor and resetting the ECU by disconnecting the battery. I did that a few months ago and I did rid the bike of any surging/backfiring issues I had but the bike seemed to be down on power a bit.
There is a lengthy discussion over on the DMF regarding this issue and all the things people have been trying. What I have done is back off the air bleeds a bit to allow more air. When I first bought the bike I had the surging/backfiring issues with the stock airbox and exhaust so my dealer adjusted them to try and cope with the problems. It helped a little but didn't eliminate the problem. It did make the bike run considerably richer and once the O2 was removed it made it more so.
When I changed over to the custom exhaust and open airbox it just got worse which is why I went with the O2 removal route. I had it dynoed a few weeks back and it confirmed my suspicions that it was down on power. It came in at around 75HP. I though it was a bit low considering so I started searching for a fix which led to the discussion with Miles.
Since I have adjusted the air bleeds the bike is running like a champ and still has none of the surging/backfireing issues.

Ive had an FIM u59 ECU in my Monster since 2003. Never had an issue. Works brilliantly. I know of at least 3 other locals with them that are happy as well.

I have a rapid bike ECU on my 998 with the following mods: full exhaust, cams, high comp pistons, and pipecross filter. All I can say is that my bike runs perfect, makes about 136hp at the rear wheel, and was set up at a Ducati race shop, not a service center. The shop is called Boulder Motorsports, look them up and give them a call. Ask for JP or Brian Sharp and they will give you the skinny on the RB.
I have had both PCIII, and 998r ecu in a 998 and tha rapid bike is by far the best and most reliable. My bike gets worked hard and it always runs great, whether its 50 deg or 100 deg, at sea level or a mile above. These two things my PCIII or 998R ecu could not do.

Cheers
Matt
