3 phase, don't know about the adjuster rod.

Marvin answered your first question.

The 01 Monster has the older style hoop type rear end. You need to support the back of the bike in the air. Loosen the lock nut. Take the bolts out of the joints at the swingarm end of the hoop and thread them out equally.
