I have a 2000 M900 which is pretty much the same thing. No real problems, but do watch for the wiring harness that runs from the start switch behind the headlight to the wiring harness. The wires are routed so they eventually work themselves apart. Other than that the bike is very reliable.

Bulletproof! As long as you maintain the 2v engines they will go a long way for you. No known rocker issues, and by 2000/2001 the Monster line had been made for a number of years so they worked out most of the bugs. I have had zero structural issues with my 2000 but there were tuning issues that are being sorted out with a PCIII and some dyno time. Great bikes and very comfortable for daily driver duty. Robust aftermarket support makes owning them fun (and expensive!) too.
