Default 749 Wheels on M750?

Hello all,

This is probably a dumb question because I don't see any Monsters running around with 749 wheels, but will 749 wheels fit on a 2002 M750S? I'm not concerned with the rotors, they can be changed, but what about the other stuff?

Thanks!

The simple answer is no they won't fit.

In case your not a simple kind of person...

The first problem is the offset for the front rotors. If you can make the 749 front wheel fit, the rotors from said 749 will not line up with your current front brake setup. Now if you've got more money than you know what to do with you could swap your Monster front end for one from a 749. That would include the front forks, brakes, upper and lower triples ect.
You would also have trouble with the rear wheel as well. You would have to make axel spacers ect. so your new rear wheel/sprocket will line up.

If you get a chance log onto www.ducatimonster.org and do a search for what you're looking for in the tech section. The topic has been discussed quite a bit. I've only hit the high points but there is a great amount of work that would need to be done if you were to undertake the project.

I hope this helps.

For the front, couldn't I just use the rotors from the Monster on the 749 wheel?

Are the axle diameters the same?

I think the axle diameters are the same but the bolt pattern on the rotors is not (I think...). I know Strati (remember him??) did this to his M999S4 and ended up swapping in the whole front end of a 999 since nothing else was really compatable.

What is so difficult with having similar wheels, or any hardware for that matter, across model lines? Ducati would probably save millions a year on machine costs alone if they did something like this.

Anyway.....

I agree with you fully. This is also why you can buy a set of OEM 749/999 wheels dirt cheap these days but 748/99X wheels are twice as pricey.

I wish someone would sell a kit to make the 999 wheels compatable with the prior year models. I know it can be done - someone on the DML has already done it and had pics of everything that was required, but it turned out to be A LOT of work.

Biggest obstacle for the rotors other than the offset is that the 749 wheels have 5 bolt holes for the rotors whereas the Monster rotors have 6 holes.
