Decent buy? Your opinion.
Guys, I went with a friend of mine yesterday to help him pick up a 2001 Monster 750 he had just purchased. The bike was completely stock and with only 1350 indicated miles. Original owner indicated this was accurate. Overall, the bike was in excellent condition, except for one thing. Somehow over the last few years, the battery overflow tube dissappeared causing acid to leak down onto the top of cylinder head, splash some on the left side frame and onto the left engine cover. Paint is definately etched and in a couple of places gone. Now, this is only cosmetic, but it would drive me nuts. I'm guessing about $250 to re-powdercoat the frame and a few bucks to do the side cover. Nonetheless, we picked up the bike for $3,500 and I rode her home...stopping at a hardware store to pick up a $.20 tube and correctly routed an overflow.
I've told my friend to stop by my garage really soon and we would use baking soda/water to neutralize the acid left on the engine case and try to scrub what we can off the bike and touch up the frame.
Thoughts?
