Default Tail Chop

Here are a few pics of my tail chop.

The cut was made aft of the masking tape

The bracket holding the tail light and winkies is one piece

Yep, nice job on the chop. That's one of the nicest DIY chop light brackets I've seen . I'm seeing more and more chops using the OEM turn signals. I like that .

Let's see a pic of your licence plate bracket.

yeah, great looking work. where did you source that mounting bracket from? this is one of the cleanest simplest ones i've seen. i dig that it uses the stock winkies too.

Here are some pics of the two brackets off the bike, they both get bolted together through the same holes in the frame.
The spare holes you see are the holes that were allready in the aluminium that I frabricated them from.
If you got some 3mm aluminium plate bent or brought some wide angle, it is all you need to make them.

They have to be powder coated matt black next, will post some pics over the weekend when I take the bike out the garage

Here's a link to my half-chop I did a couple years ago. I wanted the tail shorter--without cutting the frame--while still maintaining an OEM look:

Looks great Infoage, thought about the same concept but buying that carbon tail piece was about 200 euro
Thats why I left the stubbs on my tail frame so if I want to fizz it back on no big deal.
Not sure if I would cut the frame on a foggy either

Good idea. I've also heard of people doing "convertible" chops, whereas they can put the tail back on for the rainy season.

Thumbs up Perfect Tail Chop for the Monster

This is exactly what I want to do. Could you provide a schematic/technical drawing with all the measurements for this bracket you designed? I really want to build this bracket and use it on my 05 Monster.

Thanks,
Mark

Hi Mark, I'm not sure who you're asking, but I think if you look at the above pics, you'll see that Doon hammered those brackets out of a piece of scrap aluminum.

I don't know too many "hammer engineers" that keep their old schematic/technical drawings once they are done with a project.

I know I don't.......

You are dead right Infoage, it was a Sunday afternoon project over a couple of beers, no plans just did it, lucky to have pictures.
I fabbed the bracket before I chopped the tail just incase I wasnt happy. But after afew beers it didnt matter.

Default Scary...

Well as most I'm scared to cut my tail off, but I guess I might have to do the same, drink a few, then proceed.

Thank you for your response.

Use mums dinner plates and coffee mugs for any circles and archs, as good as anything else around.

Don't forget the sledge hammer and the garden rake to finish it off

Here are some links to pictures on my chopping. Some pictures are on the bike before painting and some are after painting but not installed on the bike.
