Default Not charging

The is a 620 Monster with 22000 miles on it.
Originally I thought I had a bad battery, but I now know this is not the case.

Starting the bike cold, the battery is being charged. After about 10 min of riding it stops being charged. If I keep riding, the battery is empty after about an hour. If I stop and let the bike cool down for about 20 minutes, the bike will charge the battery again!!
Where do I start to look for a problem? The voltage regulator, the stator etc.?
Any ideas greatly appreciated.

Check all of the connections first. Make sure they are not corroded and are seated correctly. Especially the connections on the battery terminals and the regulator. If they are corroded, clean with contact cleaner. Let us know if that doesn't help. Also what kind of voltage is your battery putting out with the bike off and with the bike running?

22,000miles hell yeah ride that thing.

jager,

Have already done what you recommended. All connections are fine(from what I can see).
When not charging the voltage is around 11.2 when the bike is running, when charging it is between 13.2-13.6 when the bike is running. If the bike is off, the battery voltage is between 12.5 and 13.2.

Keep in mind my first post, it is actually charging when I first get on, and stops charging about 10 minutes into the ride.

Yup, one of the things that is making this 'experiance' so frustrating. I have been explaining to everybody I know that this bike (had 6) is the most reliable bike I have had. Warranty ran out last month!

Sorry, I didn't remember the user name from the last post. I don't know much about fault finding as I haven't had to go down that road yet. I just know the questions that are repeatly asked when there is an electrical problem. Really just running interference for the more knowledgable people. So if its easy I can help, if harder then hopefully someone else will chime in. Lets see, you might want to try this fault finding document. Also check out this thread. Seems like you could have a problem with your regulator. Seeing that the battery is showing 13.2-13.6 while running. But look through that fault finding document above to double check.

If your regulator is bad you can pick one up at chris' site.

nope...still doing the same
I am going to drop by the dealer to exchange the VR......if that's not it, the bike will have to stay at the dealer's so he can look at the stator.
Have too charge the battery every night now, for my commute to work the next day.
