Default Nichols Flywheel for the S4

My bike is going to visit the famous Ducman 851 on Sunday, for a spa treatment and side engine re-seal, and was thinking while it was there he could throw in a flywheel.

If one were to do the flywheel without the lightend clutch basket, do you think one would notice a difference in acceleration?

Thanks in advance!!!

Everybody who has 'em really seems to like 'em.

I think you'll notice it.

Rideon. You do do one without the other and you WILL notice that flywheel...

This is exciting. The flywheel effect on downshifts is a pita, and I didn't want to spring for a slipper or a lighter clutch basket just yet.

I understand there is some improved gyroscopic tendencies on cornering, as well. We will see!!

Oh- and good morning Ducman!

I just did a slipper and Nichols flywheel (8.75 oz.) at the same time. I weighed the new parts separately and together, but have not weighed the stock parts. I thought the stock basket was steel, but it is Al. I haven't weighed the stock one yet, but it felt very light and appeared to be good quality. I'll put it on the scale and let you know if you want. It takes a little more attention around town to be as smooth as stock and has a tendancy to stop/die until fully warmed up.

your will definately notice the difference in the light flywheel, doubtful if you will notice the light clutch basket. The flywheel rotates at engine speed, the clutch doesn't.

Allo,

i have recent changed the flywheel from stock to 500gm and clutch basket and plates to Al instead of steel.weight saved from the flywheel was 1300gm and another 1200gm from the clutch assembly. The flywheel swap alone was VERY noticeable. No negatives only positives. The clutch swap is also noticable, the clutch spins at half motor speed, so i guess has half the effect, gyroscopically speaking. Anyway, the motor spins up REALLLY fast now and is a touch ..... sensitive when pulling away from lights. i.e. it stalls easliy if you dont give a bit of extra gas.

on the whole, i can recommend both so long as you dont ride too often in the city.

BTW myy bike is a 900ssie rather than a monster but....
