Default Rubber thingy in the tank fell into the tank. Help?

So, as the title reads I have the rubber fill stop floating in my tank. I tried to fish it out with the cap on but no luck. Took the cap off and then tried to take the plate under the cap off. After lossening the screws it wouldn't budge. Didn't want to force it as the hoses attached looked important.

How do I get the base plate out and do I really need to worry about the rubber stop in the tank?

you dumb ass. what were you doing playing with that anyway? to get the base off (on my '95 M944) after taking all of the allen screws out there is 1 phillips head that holds the base on. remove it and viola! the base should come off. i don't think the rubber thingy poses an immediate threat. you have a fuel filter and it's probably too big to exit the tank thru the fuel line anyway. it will, in time, soften though as the fuel eats it alive. that could be bad. i'd go for a ride use up the fuel, pop the tank off and shake that little bastard out of there. my

Thanks, I will check it this afternoon. I was thinking about putting a Jesse James tank on anyway.

that would be suh-weet. please film the entire installation. like, from the time you get out of bed that day and all the dicking around that will no doubt occur until you put the tank on. then sell it to Discovery (chopper) Channel. i'm sure it will be a big hit then we can all go to Walmart and buy GregP LA,CA MonsterChopper t-shirts.

The DML is down man. I've got way to much free time on my hands right now.

Your gas cap is held on by the allen screws but the part you want off is the inner part. It is held on by small set screws that go in the sides. you need to remove those and the cap is ready to be taken off. It does need to be HELPED along as it does not come off easy. I have 2 tanks for my S4 and after you take off the cap a few times it gets easier. As for teh Rubber thingy you don't really need it. My M900 has 16k miles on it and my Rubber thingy is gone too. Just remember don't over fill your tank. Leave about 1" from the top.

There is no additional philips head on the newer bikes. Just take the set screws out and it will come out. I use a rubber mallet handle. Put it in the opening and lever the cap a bit. The wood keeps it from damaging the cap. Work it around a bit and it will pop right off.

I figured it out. Got it off and couldn't reach the svcker. The dealer said it's not a big deal and they'll fish it out when I get it serviced.

On another down note I just noticed a nail in my rear tire. Dooh. I was going to try and squeeze out another 1000mi but not any more.

Just add gas. It will float to the top.

Once you get it out, throw it away.

Hi guys another dml'er here. Had the floating rubber in my tank last week also. found it after i filled up and though " But since the tank was full it was very easy to grab. Haven't put in back yet, i'm assuming it goes back on the filler hole entance?

not sure what it's supposed to do. maybe get knocked into the tank and cause hair loss and frustration? i ditched mine a while back and got 2-3mph more on the top end and am making 105.69 rwhp without it. that's up from 105.68.5. huge!
i now keep my rubber in my wallet only.
