Time to cut the chain, take her home, clean her and make her shine again.

Yes, great suggestion but dumb move.

You have the dudes name and numbers, can you track him down, there must be some way of finding him/her/it.

Shame to see it homeless and decaying.

Ya may want to have PD run the VIN & Plate. They may be able find out if the guy is alive or WTF has happened.
I just have this visual of a bad divorce situation and the beeotch getting his bike and parking it to rot out of principle. I have seen worse things.

I know how you can get it LEGALLY. You need to find a friend that owns a towing company/storage yard that you can trust. Make an agreement with them on a price before you give them any info on the bike. Have them tow it if it is on private property. They can then put a lein on the bike. If the owner doesn't pay the towing fees within a certain period of time,(Not sure what it is in NY) they now own the bike legally and can keep, sell, or auction the bike off. Of course it would be sold to you based on your agreement price. ($500) It would put $$ in their pocket, you would get a great deal on a bike, and everything would be legal.

What he is talking about is called a mechanics lein (in MN anyway). It allows for the tow compnay or mechanic that has veh abandoned at their shop to sell the veh in order to recoup some of the losses. If the veh is on private property then it can be towed by the company of the property owners choice, if on public property then it gets towed by the PD and the company they choose. After so many days of sitting at the tow companies HQ they notify the registered owner and any parties that may have a secured intrest in the veh (lein holders). If they still recieve no response of if both parties state that they will not pay the bill to get the veh back then may then sell the bike to the public. It can take some time but is not uncommon. I think that the fastest way is to track down the owner and buy it cheap out from under him. I would tell him that the bike is pretty much trashed from the elements but that you wanna buy it as a parts bike for $1500 or something like that. Just my opinion.

Yep that is correct. It is called the same thing here in Cali. The only catch would be if it is on a public roadway and PD uses their towing company, or the bike doesn't have a "clean" title and has a lein on it from a lender. The leinholder would have first dibs in the repo.

I think it would be worth a shot. Try and do some research on if it IS on private property, then find out if it has a leinholder. Those are the only two snags I could foresee. The only other one is that if the guy IS dead, then serving him would be kind of hard.(Even though I have served someone at a family funeral once, but they had a pulse)
Then you would have to go through the process of contacting family/next of kin/his estate attorney, etc.

If those hurdles work out, then I would think you would be home free. Of course the easiest thing to do is contact the owner directly as said above. You may want to send your next letter with signature required/return receipt to see if the guy signs it and then you will know if he is alive (Or at least living there).

Keep us posted. If I was closer, I would help you out.................or get it before you.

It is an "S" model as well ! Ohlins rear, fully adj. Showa front ! It is a great model if you can mange to buy it. I see the sticker on the forks is dated 09/03... Is it a parking or Military sticker ?? Track him down thru that maybe.. Stock pipes, crashed a few times, sitting for probably 2 years plus ! It must be a low mile bike as well. Get it if you can..... definately ask DMV for help running the license plate for the registered owner on file.

you can just see the top of the ohlins resevoir right behind the shock, aluminum swingarm and the various badly faded carbon parts. It looks like the tail cover and the front fairing are missing ? and it been crashed on both sides
Right rear blinker hanging and shift lever bent like a pretzel....
