Default Hi-compression Monster battery question

I bet it's been beat to death, but I have to ask what a suitable replacement for a stock M900 battery would be. I'd like to shave a bit of weight if possible-possibly entertaining a lead-gel battery. But the bike now has hi-compression pistons, and dependability is important. It's tough to tow that SOB. Any thoughts?

Thanks

I have an OEM gel battery in my 944 11.5:1 SS with no worries. This will be its 3rd season with no problems.

Is that the one that is standard on the more recent models? Mine is a 1996, and it's got that old-school wet cell. But that battery seems to work well, eh? Thanks for the tip.

I think its the same as the new OEM. I bought it from a dealer who had an overstock and was eBaying them. I paid $50 I think. Previously I had the huge old-school water battery that puked on my frame a couple of times...after the second time I binned it for this one which is much lighter and is maintenance free.

My HC 944 doesn't seem like it wants to start: brump......brump....brRRROOOOOMMMM but it always does Its better when warm of course, but I have not had any problems.

Yeah, I've got a YTZ7S in my M966. Every once in a while, it complains. And just last week, it threatened to leave me stranded. BUUUT, give it a charge before heading out and all will be ok. Better still, go with a larger capacity one.

I have an Odyssey PC680 in mine. I also have a high comp 944 kit with FCR's to boot.

Upgrade your 3 cables to heavier gauge as well. that helped turn mine over a bit easier.

I also have an Odyssey PC680 and high comp pistons with FCR's . Never needs charging, Great cranking power but 5 lbs heavier.

+1 on the cables.

I had starting issues with my hi comp s4 and tried to fit an odyssey but didn't fit. Big cables helped a lot.

If the question is, "best battery?," my answer is, without question, "Odyssey."

Mine's a 97 900SS with 11:1 JE pistons, FCRs, K&N pods, Dyna coils, Nichols' lightened flywheel, etc. Does not like to start after having sat a while (and this one does, as we are fortunate enough to have something of a stable these days). But it always does.

Had a 900 SL with 12.5:1 JE pistons. Stock battery worked fine for me. It was a 14 amp which may be different that what you have.
