Re: Superbike Swingarm Convo? (Cool As Ice)
i've got one on my monster s4 but it was in conjunction with a 999 engine transplant.
things to take into account...
the motor cases pivot is narrower on the SBK motors than the monster motor so you'd have to punch out the bearings in the 944 cases and mill or grind them down to accomodate the 999 s'arm. with that "meat" removed from the cases, it'd be a good idea to weld on some bracing to the frame to help support the stress/load of the swingarm.
aside from that, the 999 s'arm doesn't have a hole in it for the rear cylinder's header to pass through so you'd need to do a one-off exhaust system to suit the swingarm. i used a full 54mm system off a 998 for my project so i think you could probably use a 916 system if you cut it up and welded it to accomodate the 2v heads.
here's the "big deal" in my oppinion... the stock location of the suspension rocker does not align with where the shock and tie-rod mount in the recess of the 999 s'arm so you've got to cut it off and remount it on your frame. not a show-stopper but not the simplest thing to do successfully.
all in all, it's doable but there's a lot of hickups to take into account as far as physical conflicts of parts and custom fabrication.
last thing before i forget... the s'arm takes a 30mm axle so you'd need to go with a 999's rear wheel, brake, sprocketcarrier.
cheers!
