Tank painting question

I have a 1999 Monster and was wondering is the ducati logo on the side of the tank just a decal with a clearcoat over it, or is the word ducati actually imprinted in the side of the tank.

I am repainting the tank and would like to use the older style ducati logos, but didn't know if I could just sand out the old logos.

it's a decal. you can find pretty good quality decals here http://www.xtremedecals.com/ they're where i got my old-school decals for the new tank:

yep, just sand it off. they sell a special decal remover pad for a DA, but I never bothered.
