Default exhaust wrap

okay. im a poseur but i like the look of exhaust wrap. so i bought some black
DEI wrap and some Beige too.
i am wrapping from the headers all the way to the slip ons.

Now..my brother is a car freak and he wrapped his car headers(Stainless Steel) but as he was driving the headers cracked and shattered.. I dont believe the header wrap was the main reason for the shattering/failure of the steel but he says the extreme heat retention of the wrap is the main reason for shattering.

Has anyone heard of this??
pls advise

I had wrap like you said on my race bike (monster 600). No problems but it did discolor the pipe alittle bit.

the pipe failure is not uncommon (not really common either tho) with wrapped pipes and non existant with non wrapped pipes. probably depends on how much power the engine is making, how much air each pipe has to flow and how well it's tuned too.

stainless holds a lot more heat than mild steel anyway. internal ceramic coating is probably better. i'm sure it'll cost a heap more too.

thank you guys for the wisdom..
my brothers car has something like 400hp and a monster turbo and he drives like a nut so i assume there was a lot of heat.

im just wrapping the pipes on my m900 and i ride conservatively so hopefully it will be okay...even in summer
thank you

I've had it on my truck for about 7 years now, no problems except the telltale rust that develops when the wrap soaks in water and sits. No cracks like I was warned about, and they're wrapped right up to the flange.

Plan to do the t-bucket next

Just make sure you leave a couple of inches between the flange and where you start the wrap.

I just got Tit FORZA stock mounted Header to end system for my 99 M-900 thinking I want to heat tape them, leaving 2" from head flange. I like the look, and hopefully keep the heat where it belongs. Toppino Ed

$40 or so for 50' of 2" wrap.
$10-15 for stainless clamps to secure it.
$10 for a can of header-wrap silicone treatment to keep it from getting really nasty.
------------------
$60-65 total.

interestingly enough, ceramic coating from performancecoatings.com of my full system including muffler inlet and exhaust caps is $120 in "chromex" finish. would've been a bit less without the muffler parts. would've been less still if i went with a satin finish. i think it's a good option.
