Default S4 Upgrade.

I am just in the process of upgrading my S4 engine. Following will come. 996 SPS cams, Timed of course, ST4 45mm exhaust, Squish set to 1mm, PC3 USB. The question is when I have everything open maybe I should put some HC pistons at the same time. Does some one have any experience on this on a S4 or a 916. What do I gain? Do I need to change the ignition? What brand should I have? As I am not planning to split the crank case to rebalance I want some pistons with the same weight as original . How high comp should I have? Is it just a wast of money?
For the cam timing. What timing is recomended for 996 SPS cams?

Jocke.........

Definitly get some pistons. The Pistal ones are the way to go. You will not need to rebalance. They make a huge difference. Don't go over 13.5:1

You will not need different ignition.

Set your cam timing at 114/107

bcmducati.com i think carries HC pistons.
if you're getting the exhaust/cams as a kit, you should expect a "corse" ecu as well. if you are getting the cams seperately, i've got a buddy who's returning his tricked S4 to stock to sell and has the DP ecu to accomodate the SPS cams. lemme know if you'd be interested in it and i can put you in touch with him. he's also selling his 45/50 sil motor full system with round carbon high-mounts. the cams are already spoken for.

Hi. The ECU should be interesting. Is it the DP one for SPS cams and spagetthi 45/50 exhaust? The question is the imobilizer. How does that work? Can I use it with my keys?I have a 2002 bike. Which year does this one fit to? I have the cams and a ST4 exhaust so it will be a little lowbudget project.

if the dp ecu has never been coded to the bike it'll be fine. if it has been coded then it shouldn't work.

Brad, Thinking of the positive rev. shifter lever, on my lightly modified "99" M900,
Victor from Ferracci sent me a full tit exahus., got dyna jets, K&N open airbox Timing advanced 3 past dead center. Runs great, going to add 2 teeth to the rear
sprocket, for some 3rd. gear torque, for front tire relief. What is your opinion. I'm
a recovering harley rider, Finally found what a motorcycle should ride, handle, and
make a riding day count.

Victor sent an Oil temp gauge, replacing the handlebar top. Made a perfect place on top for a 12 v outlet. The gauge looks great. matches the tach., & spedo. Love it.

Dufusisim, All that H.D. dung Eat, by choice.1/4 Century+ Yrs. of repression.
Loved an R80GS "86". Put a supertrapp, single outlet pipe on it. Let my friends in Clt.
at the dealership, tune it, to the pipe, or add disk to the tip, or change out some jet's. That R80, was one high off the ground ass kicker. I put some Metz. Sarahas
on it. Could walk beside it lettin' it push it's way out of a bad spot, or you could do
105, Up 77 without a grunt. Tryin' to re aquire it.

I've been told by my Ducati Dealer that the DP 5.9 ECU can be re-coded if the red key is used - previous coding is not an issue...

this is correct for '01 & '02 S4 ECU's. is NOT the case for the S4R.
