there's not an aweful lot of room under the engine length-wise to have an exhaust that wouldn't seriously effect cornerring clearance.
but you could try running a single muffler directly in the middle of the bike like on norm's grey bike in this pic: http://www.motomaxy.com/greyM/greyM1.jpg
as i understand it, a header come in from each side of the muffler for forward and vert cylinders, and the exhaust pulses out of holes in the bottom.
another idea would be to design an exhaust similar to what thorsten's doing on his 999. plumb the headers to a muffler that nestles pretty much where the s4r's "bulge" is, and then run an exit pipe/exhaust tip forward and out the right side.
orrrrrrrr... what my fav for looks on the s4R would be is to spray-bomb the whole stock header flat black and just add a couple slash-cut exhaust tips directly to the "bulge" in the header, omitting mufflers altogether. i think that would look pretty cool.

Yeah, thats actualy what we just did out in the shop just to see what it would look like, and I like the fact that the space under the swingarm is filled up, the wheel is uncovered, etc.
But the box looks like doo doo.
I do have a headder for it that eliminates the box, and I could run that wide open/slash cut. But I still want to fill the space up under the motor/swingarm.
Road Racing under engine exhaust
spareshack has a pic but i dont know how to post it
will have to redo the header at the head
cut off the originals and weld to new header

Thanks for the link. The close up pictures tell a lot! That system doesn't look like it's worth $1000, thats for sure.
We were just fiddling arround with making our own. It looks like if we cut up the stock exhaust cans, weld them together, bend some pipe, etc. We may end up with something acceptable.
hey jason, there is a road racing under engine exhaust on ebay right now for $300. One sold a few days ago overseas for under $300. I'd say the one on ebay will go for $500-$700.

Do those short side-pipes look good on a bike with a "Cobra" paint job, or what? Are those full system, or do they use the S4R's scrotum?
I don't particularly care for the "Road-Race" pipes on eBay, though.
