I am not 100% certain on this, but I don't think you can. I know that for 2002 and 2003 the ONLY monsters that you can adjust the rear ride height on are the S4 models.

You can, however, install an adjustable tie rod in your bike which will allow you to adjust it. The parts can be purchased from Ducati (for a total of about $600 retail) or you can obtain an aftermarket tie rod. My company stocks tie rods that will fit your bike for $160.00. It is a simple drop-in part. Our tie rods are made of Tennalum 7068 alloy; they are far stronger and stiffer than the OEM Ducati part or any other brand available.

Once you have a tie rod in place, adjusting it is simple. You hold the rod steady with a wrench, loosen the locknuts on either end, and then turn it to make the height adjustment. Once you get it where you want it, hold the rod steady and tighten the locknuts. Bam, you're done!

Check your tie rod in back.....the Ducati spare parts catalogs page 74 show it should be adjustable on the '03 1000 and the 800, except for the 800 dark version. If so......it's a couple of 19mm open ends on the nuts, one is hash marked and is reverse threaded...tight in there but it does work....and yep you can go too high, and wear away your chain plate...you can of course get an adjustable ride height shock to adjust things also.

Well, I guarantee you that my '02 M900 i.e. has a tie rod. Said tie rod has two nuts at the bottom , but my wrenches can't get there. There is not enough space between the tie rod and the swing arm for my wrench to fit. If anyone know of who makes thin wrenches that fit there, let me know

if you really want to adjust your ride-height, suspend the bike's rear by the frame and pull the rod out. make your adjustments and then reinstall. sounds complicated, but it's really not that difficult. if you've got a couple "saw horses", put one on either side of the bike. raise the bike on a rear-stand. remove the side covers under the seat. pass a 2x4 through the frame where the side covers were so that it rests on the saw horses. remove rear-stand and get to work

honest it works using wrenches.....takes five minutes....I'll try to post photo's as soon as I can, if that would be helpful...but mine has the hoop so I will have to get to another bike.

What magical wrench will fit in there? Just tried again and I don't know of any wrench that will work. Any ideas?

You could try to lenghten the strut by the wrenching from the top flats. That will relieve stress on the locknuts. Then move the lower nut and adjust the strut properly. Put some tape on the frame to protect it from the wrench. Don't ask me why.

Maybe I'm just dense but I have no idea what this means. Please try again. It might help to know I am very much mechanically DISinclined! Thanks, Mike

hillbilly- I have an '03 M1000 and have adjusted the rear ride height. An additional 1" seemed to help a lot, but ofcourse YMMV....

My super-wrenches lacked the power to get in some of the tight spots, and s4strati is right- taking the rod out is the best (easiest) way. Keep in mind the side with the little cuts in the nuts is reverse thread.

good luck!

Sorry for the typo. My fingers and eyes are turning into cr@p in my old age.

Since you have easier access to the top strut nut, loosen that one. Use two open wrenches, one to hold the strut, one for the nut. With the top nut all loose, then wrench the strut to lenghten it. That removes the tension in the lower lock nut and you can then loosen and readjust everything.
