Default Chassis

I was hoping to ask you a technical question. I have a discussion going with a not-so-well-informed friend of mine. He believes everything he reads, like the ZX6RR is the first 600 with USD forks. When it was actually the 1992 GSXR600.

He thinks that the Monster frame is the same as the 851/888. That is what they currently state in modern motorcycle magazines. I say it is a derivitive of the 851/888, but not the same frame. I do believe it is a ST2 frame, maybe not exactly, but more so than an 851 type. Can you please, as Ducati fanatics, help me with this discussion?

I looked it up to find that the Monster has a rake of 24 mm, trail of 96 mm. Wheelbase is 1440. 851 has a rake of 26 and a trail of 105 mm with a wheelbase of 1460.

The ST2 has rake of 24 mm and trail of 102 mm, with a wheelbase of 1430.

Hi Beyote

The monster frame, pre-S4 is unique, and has nothing remotely to do with 851, 888 or ST2, 3 and 4's. The swingarm in alloy and link, but not the shock, are, however the same as the 851 and 888 series.
All the later frames, from about 1999 on which use the S4 916 style rocker link are the same, sometimes with minor differences, and again, are unique to the monster range. Then you have the S4R......
Happy holidays !

Default butt munch

I'm not going to bring up the subject of the 851/888 frame again w/u but I think it's messed up that you would talk about your brother like this on a public site. My momma didn't teach me much, like the rake and trail of a 888 but she did teach me if I ain't got nothin nice to say about someone not to say nothin at all. It's all good bro. If maybe next time you could just ask the question w/o talking smack about me, that would be super cool.

Dude, do you realize how old that was for one. Plus you were sitting right next to me as you wrote it and you are bringing it back up by making the post.

If you ask me a question, dont' believe me, then you can, no offense, look it up on the internet. No biggie. If you look at the frames, the geometry is different, and the frames themselves are different. I went to the internet for a concensus, not to bad mouth you, and I didnt' meantion your name and was pissed that you would ask me only to throw it in my face while I was at work in the bay working on a HMVE. Do you know how old this is???

Dude, lets just ride our bikes.

Mike, you own both a trick Monster and a gorgeous classic 851 (modded to the hilt?)?

Very nice.

BTW, nice fertilizing system. Can't beat cheap labor.
