Default ARGH! Scrathched my tank!

Well, I've gone and scratched my tank. It's scratched where a tank protector should have gone. Now I guess I need to get a something to cover that area. It scratched from a stupid rivet on my jeans. I'm passed

What I'd love to do (besides burning the offeding jeans) is to touch up that scratch and use some kind of clear 3M film instead of big black tank protector sticker.

Any suggestions. Also, how do i find touch up paint.

I applied something called The Tank Slapper (www.thetankslapper.com) on my Sport Classic. It's basically a sheet of clear vinyl, and if it's applied properly (make sure you do it in the daylight) you barely know it's there. The Tankslapper folks sell kits that are pre-cut to your bike's tank, so it's pretty easy. I've never seen this in stores, but I bought it online and no problem. Also, it covers a much larger area than a regular tank protector, which is good for me since my gut regularly interfaces with the top of my tank.

Thanks for the link, Tom! I'm going to give that a try.

For some reason, the black paint on my Sport just *seems* really fragile. I haven't tested that theory so far, thankfully, but I'm scared to even rest my gloves on the tank when I'm stopped at a light for fear of scratching it.

This stuff should do the trick, as long as it comes up high enough on the tank.

I know Ducati has that leather tank "bra", but it covers up the whole paint job, which is one of the coolest things about the bike. Why would I want to cover it up???

hawc, sorry to hear about your scratch. But hey, now that it's "broken in" you'll have to take it to a track day...

Just what the doctor ordered (and I did!). Up until I saw this post I've been taping the brass buttons on my leather jacket (there are three right at the bottom) with really tacky looking masking tape. My Paul Smart will be much happier for it. (now if I can just get rid of my pocket protector and figure out how to get the electrical tape off my glasses ...)

Thanks a bunch.

Well, I'm already impressed! I placed my order last night (right after I posted above), and I got an e-mail this afternoon telling me it's been shipped.

Wow, efficient service and (from what you guys have said) a quality product as well!

I can't believe I hadn't heard of The Tankslapper before...

I got my kit yesterday in the mail. So that means, I ordered it online late Monday night, and it was in my mailbox first thing Thursday morning. Now that is some service!

I've got a busy week going on, so I don't know if I'll be able to get to the installation right away, but I'll post when I get it done...

I was looking at that. I'll definitely read up on it before I start the installation...
