Default Crossover Pipe Discoloration - Staintune Exhaust Slip-ons

Noob question...proceed with care.

Here’s the deal. Last month, I installed the Staintune slip-on exhaust myself. Since then, I’ve put on about 700 miles.

Last week, I took the MHe into the service department to have the Evaporation Canister removed. When the bike was returned to me, the service department said they were able to do some “fine tuning” on the engine, because it was running lean. They said it was the best they could do without the addition of a Powercommander. I’m cool with that, because they’re a very good shop.

After I got the bike back from the shop, I immediately did a full wash/wax, and chrome polish.

Since I’ve received the bike back from the service department, I’ve accumulated about 200 miles.

As you can see in the photo, during the last 200 miles, the crossover pipe is turning a bright brass color, and the brass color is starting to leach onto the mufflers. Actually, the photo is not a good representation of how yellow the crossover pipe has become.

Okay now, here’s the stupid question:

Is the color change a result of the engine not running properly, or is the color change just something that was going to happen naturally?

all chrome will discolor with exhaust heat unless it's double walled. HOWEVER, it will usually only do it at the point where it comes out of the head. If it's discolored that far up the line I would tend to think it's running lean. Again, it depends on how thin the walls are on the exhaust system.

totally normal for the crossover pipe to discolor as you describe.
