Default PS question to Origional Up Front Buyers

I'm curious what the market reaction has been to the PS1000. I didn't expect to be able to go purshase 3 of them today if I had the money and that is just within Texas.

Were 2000 units worldwide available for presale back when dealers were taking orders? It seems to me that I recall the MH900 creating a bigger buzz and availability was much tighter.

Is it the second child isn't as exciting as the first thing?

I'm not sure that's a (saturation of the) market effect that you're seeing right now. I get the impression that most dealers have put in reservations for SportClassics, maybe in hopes of some extra windfall, and are now putting "their" bikes on the floor. Same has happened with the MH900e: all 2,000 bikes were sold in a very short amount of time and a lot of people who wanted one, couldn't get one. Right after Ducati started shipping, bikes were available at dealerships. At a premium

The MH900e's were sold on a first come, first serve, basis and some 560 have made it to the US. With the SportClassic, 1,000 PS1000LE's will come to the US and another 1,000 for the rest of the world. At least that is what I've read in magazines, press-releases, etc.

When I picked up my PS the second weekend in January, the dealer told me that there were only 85 Smarts in the US at that point. This guy spends time in Italy, seems to have some connections, etc. Whether or not he's right...not sure.

I have read that Ducati will be importing only 500 for the US. I think that was an "official" Ducati comment from somewhere...their site, an interview...who knows? -Capt

I would be curious what the final count was for units shipped to the U.S. I had heard only "500" into the U.S. than I heard it was 1000 for us and a 1000 for everyone else. In the long run it really doesn't matter as I love to just look at it in the garage. When my buddy bought his, I know he called all over socal and not a one was avalible. He finally found one in Sunnyvale when the original guy dropped out.

I'm not sure the PS1000le situation is any different than the Mhe's. I remember when I picked up my Mhe the dealer had 3 others that the buyers had backed out off.

With the PS, the dealers either had deposits or pre-ordered the bikes in hopes of having deposits. Last week I saw 2 PS1000le's at the Paris Dealer and 1 in Lausanne. These were listing for $15k euro + options. I suspect that this will go on for a couple of more months. At that point - there will be few new ones to be had and the secondary market will start up.

just my 2 cents.
