Sport Classic Exhaust, any rumors, speculation, or outright fabrications?
We know we have the DP/Termis and the Zard. Has anyone heard of anything from any of the other majors (Arrow, Gianelli, Akrapovic, Leo Vince, Staintune)?
Also, has anyone contemplated either chroming or Jet Hot Sterling coating one of the Termis?
I want something "Retro". (Well I want the bike to get here too)

I have the slip on DP/Termis and I don't like them on my Sport 1000, the look, the sound and I want something different. My MH900e with the Staintunes has a far better sound. I had a 2 into 1 years ago on a bevel 900SS that sounded great, someone else needs to come up with a black 2 into 1 reverse cone that looks retro. The Zard didn't do much for me. I don't like the end cap on the DP/Termis 2 into 1 for the bike either....I'm just to picky but I love the bike.
Has anyone contacted Staintune yet? The MH900e owners have worked with them on slip-ons (few years ago) and an equal length header-system (just completed). When they sense ampel interest, all they need is a "loaner bike" for fitment and testing. The person providing the loaner gets to keep the proto-type.
Having daid this, it might be good to search "consensus" on the specs and preferred look & feel, beforehand. Staintune really surprised the MH900e-owners with their header-solution. Most like it, some are neutral and some dislike it.
Agree with izzug: sound of the slip-ons for the Mh900e is (leave the baffles out)

I'm not sure exactly what I'm looking for, the Termignoni slip-ons aren't far off from an appearance point of view, maybe just slightly too slender and I'd prefer the ends be more of a megaphone with the cap recessed. The stock exhaust looks good, I suppose a loud copy of it would be harder to sell, but the proportions of the cans look appropriate. Perhaps Akrapovic could do something with a dual in dual out single muffler similar to their Monster S2R slip on. The Termignoni full system looks too spindly as well, and I don't like the stainless finish. I don't think that the bike plays well with a hi-tech finish like stainless, Ti or Carbon, I thinks its almost going to have to be Black (maybe Wrinkle), Nickel, polished or Chrome. All this is of course based upon pictures since my bike is still apparently on a boat.
I'm not sure if it would work, but a chrome or black system that placed a muffler similar to the Termignoni full on each side could play well appearance wise and would be pretty "Ducati".

I guess I am undecided about whether Carbon is going to work or not...
I think it could if done right. Ducatis are after all intended to have carbon clutch covers and belt covers...
I think it is possible that Akrapovics new Hexagonal muffler could be used and look good if they are carful about the design. Perhaps two stacked like the stock mufflers and anodized or painted black or perhaps very dark carbon.
Then again, I might be
Anyone got a sport or PS near Staintune?

You need to see the bike in person. The stock cans are HUGE, and they sound even worse than they look.
If you look at old pictures of the original bikes, the pipes were so small they almost didn't even taper from the head pipes. Granted, they generally had pipes on either side of the bike, so something like that might look okay, but keep in mind the Sport Classics have a big ol' single shock on the left side, so a right-side exhaust makes everything look more balanced.
I think the Termi slip-ons have the right look for the Classics, but I can't get over the fact that they cost more than a full system from Zard. I like the Zard look, because they remind me of a hand-built set of race pipes like you would see on an old race bike of that vintage. If they came with a black coating like the Termi's, I think they'd look great on my black Sport...
I have the Termi slip-ons and the look is just OK but the sound is not, if Zard did the system in black I would like it more. The Staintune's on my MH are the best sounding mufflers I have on a Duc. I think the system that Arrow will come out with will sound great but we will have to wait to see what it looks like, retro carbon.
Well, it wouldn't be long before I have my Zard Ti pipes on my Smart. Then at least we'll have a little variety to choose from that we can actually look at. I'll take some pix after installation. (Zard's pix of the pipes mounted are less than desireable for making big-money decisions...so I bit the bullet!)

Agreed, Zard could do a better job of taking photos of their product! Can't wait to see yours...
And definitely let us know how the Zard system sounds....
Well I got the call today that my Red sport arrived at the dealer. I hope it will arrive here late next week or the following week. Therefore, I can see the stock pipes in person.
izzug, I would be interested in meeting you someplace around Atlanta and see and hear your Termis.
I do want to see what Akrapovic and Arrow come up with, I've owned both for the RC51 and suspect the Akrapovic will have the quality edge, looks is probably a wild card.

I actually found your page a while back from the Yahoo list. Do you think the pipe itself (muffler) would polish as well?
The muffler/silencer part would polish up VERY well. The question I had to myself was would the muffler/silencer part look best polished or brushed on the PS??? I thought brushed would look the best.
Its only money, you could always do the "Scotch Brite" clean up trick, see how you like it then have it polished. If you liked the brushed look better just break out the "Scotch Brite" and you are back to where you started. The trick is doing a good job. My headers and coupler were about $125 US at my local chrome shop.
As I mentioned on my web site you can "do-it-yourself" but you need the right tools otherwise you end up with all kinds of buffer marks. The goal in my case was to obtain a mirror like finish just like what the folks at Staintune do. Having said that, I polished the headers and coupler making sure they were totally de-greased so that they would "age well" and turn a wonderful shade of gold. Don't foget the clean cotton gloves for handling and assembly. Also the polished metal is a bit easier to clean the the brushed metal and that is especially important to me on those area of high heat.

Well, my bike arrived tonight and I have had a chance to hear it and see them in the "flesh". (I have not yet ridden it; it is too late to set out on an unfamiliar bike)
Initial impression is that I stand by my original statement, I think the stock pipes look good, they do not sound that bad to me either. I am still thinking I am going to Chrome a set of head pipes and Termi Slip Ons. I might consider the Zard Slip ons if they produce them.
The Clutch is too damb quiet, got get a chrome open cover on there pronto...
I might be looking at the ST bar risers posted by Ducati Seattle...

To hear them best, put on a set of headphones or turn up your external speakers loud. You won't be able to appreaciate the thumping on just your laptop speakers.
I have removed the internal baffles in these pipes, to make them as loud as possible and I'm extremely happy with the result.
