Default Ohlins forks / shock

Hi all,

I have been searching for some ohlins forks for the MH and seem to be struggling. Anyone buy a set when they first came out and want to cash in???

Same with rear shock - although they are still available so less urgent.

Thanks
Dave

Heya Dave

I have been doing some skunking around as well but have come up with nothing in Ohlins.

After chasing it through the Ducati channnels I have established that the 1999/2000 up 900SS is the only Ducati with the same length staunchion hence I have been looking for a cheaper set of SS forks to have taken apart and gold valved etc.

May be another option to throw in the mix anyway.

Hey Andi

What would be involved with adapting some others?

I know Alex had some fitted recently, perhaps he can tell us what thew deal was - Alex?

How is Mal going?

Cheers
Dave

Just got off the phone with PPS and Ohlins USA

Sig at PPS indicated that some could be made up based on a similar model, but the lengths could be slightly shorther than standard - is this the case Alex, and if so what is the impact / effect.

A very helpful guy at Ohlins USA indicated that he woiuld see if there were any propper ones lurking around in Sweden and if the ones fitted to the PS1000 were the same. Best of all he indicated he should have an answer within a day or so - cool!

PS If there are two I will reserve a set for you Andi!

The only ohlins that I could find that fit our bike is for the Monster. These are approx. 1" shorter than the stock Mhe forks. (this is measured off the bikes - no load / side by side)

This is BEFORE the sag is set. (varys by rider..)
This is also before some internal changes that can be made to lengthen (+10mm) the forks.
This is also before the fork tubes are dropped a bit lower in the triple clamps (+5mm - +10mm).
Net - you are about the same as stock.

I haven't noticed any negative change in handling due to the forks. I would still recommend this change highly. There (IMHO) is a huge change in the way these forks handle bumps vs. stock forks.

I did this change in shortly after raising the rear concentric to the top position. The effect of that change was very noticible to me. It put me much more over the front end and I really felt it in the wrists. I am considering either:

- Move concentric back down (while taking off star bracket to avoid issues there)
- Get helibars to raise clip-on's to more netural riding position..

These are my results - yours may vary..

FYI - I found that Stig was the ONLY person helpful in this search. Here in the USA - Ohlins currently ONLY sells kits for the 749/999 or 916/998 series bikes. Nothing else.

Ducati sells an Ohlins Fork Kit (same as the Smart) for the Sport. I suspect the forks would work on the Mhe (but haven't actually tried or looked that closely) and are available from Ducati. The Ducati List price for the Paul Smart Forks are $2018 USD. This is about $500 less than from Ohlins - and before any discounts you can get from the dealer... Might be the best and most economical way to go.. Only draw back I can think of is they are not TIN coated.

Good Luck..

Alex

My Monsta S4 forks I measured against the MH, they are exactly 45 mm shorter than the MH, SBK forks are in the region of 25 mm shorter than the MH, SS forks are exactly the same length hence that was my direction.

The MH has a 23 deg steering rake now and likes to shake their head if the damper is on a lower setting or worse still with no damper, dropping it that far in the front I would not want to do.

Dave, thanks for your offer to reserve a set of Ohlins but they are more than I wonna spend at the mo (unless you get em for shining dutchy deal) , we are putting money to a new two seater and yeap Mal is going very well, 17 rides with no cracks, breaks, failures, shortouts or parts disolving, did the dyno on the weekend, 77 RWHP with a nice curve, I will post the torque etc and the dynochart later.

Still has an existing electrical funny which we believe is in the ECU, a miss at 5700 consistantly??!!, Ducati have given me a full six month Warrantee extension so hopefully they will get that sorted out but everything else seems good to go.

I found a bunch of folks that "listed" the mhe. EVERYONE came up ZERO when I actually called and tried to order.

I also went to Lindeman and Aftershocks in the bay area - same story - no Ohlin for the Mhe. Heck - I even tried WIM VROON in NL, since it used to be on thier website as well - no luck..

FYI..
