Default 888 !!!!

Hello everyone,

I'm Philippe, "speaking" from ... France !!!

I decided to spend few days by checking, reading the forum in order to avoid mistakes with my first post .

In my homecountry, Ducati riders represent a minority ...
I'm a proud member of this sect !!!
My topic title is explicit enough to understand which model of Ducati I'm an addict ...

Here are my pretty girlfriends to "whom" I express my daily best wishes !!!
I hope you will appreciate ...

This forum is the best opportunity for me (and some French hidden readers on trouble with american language ... ) to get feedback about this model in US. Of course I've got few informations throughout books but no exact personal feelings from current riders or previous owners.
I would appreciate to start some talks with you, in order to get your own feelings about the 888, which is considered here as an icon for some (intelligent) riders and as a ... fossil for some others !!!
If you wish to get few informations about my bikes, don't hesitate !!! I'll take time to answer, no matter distance between France and you !!!

Best Regards

Philippe

Few years ago, I felt on my knees when I watched Falappa , Polen and Roche ... of course !!! fighting for the world title.
I focused on the idea to get such a pretty bike !!!
Today with 43 years on my shoulders, I realised my dream .. and a bit more !!!

Few explanations about my bikes:

- I used to ride a SP 1993, 100% restored by myself along year 1999.

- In 2000, I decided to find a 888 Racing 1993, in order to finalized the dream I had by the past, when my knees were injured ... After hundred of phone calls worldwide, I realised the fullness of this (stupid) idea ... So, I decided to bring together the whole of the parts collected during previous years and made a statement of the missing parts which I espacially found in US, Germany and UK. At the end of 2002, the puzzle slept in the garage, stored into dozen of boxes ...
I spent the year 2003 abroad for professional reasons. Back home in january 2004, I decided to rebuild a brand new Ducati Racing. It's important to say that each part is a Racing part and my main problem was to find the rear swing arm 1993, with 3 cms longer than Strada or SPO model, plus a bigger rear wheel axle.
After one year and half hidden into my garage, I'm happy to tell you that this amaizing bike is finalized
... For your eyes, only ...

If my experience brings you, even a basic interest, don't hesitate to inform me ... Afterwards, I'll tell you my last adventure ...

Philippe

I apologize about the size of my pics, I'm quite sure that some of you are upset ... and I understand !!!

I'm not conviced of the interest about my explanations and the steps to finalized my projects... (could be boring for you).
So I decide today to send 2 pics of my current... and LAST restoration !!!
You can see below one original of the 32 last 888 Corsa built by Ducati factory in 1994, 926 cc bores etc .. I found it last year after 9 years without racing (broken crankshatf end of 1994 ...) and stored into a private garage.
Today, after have been rebuilt by Ducati store Bologne, the engine offered its magic sound only 40 minutes before I decide to start the chassis restoration !!!
After this model, Ducati stopped the opportunity to ride a 888 Corsa and purposed to private riders the 916 Corsa ...
The end of my mechanical passion stopped in 1994 ...

Keep in mind that my main goal here is to get informations about the 888 worldwide, not only to show what an independant addict is able to do by himself ...

Phil911

WOW! stunning collection. would love to have just one of those some day....

and don't worry about writing a long story about your rebuild, just look at some of the threads around here and you'll see that we like nothing more than reading about anyone's bike modifications and reconstruction.

it is simply amazing that a race machine... a tool built for a purpose of going fast, can be so elegantly styled.

and i love the slow evolutionary development by companies like ducati.... i think i see the frame for my little monster under all that sexy red plastic

You sound like you have a passion, thanks for sharing.

Thanks all for your encouragements ...

I'm conviced that sharing is own experience is another way to "feed" the passion !!

Those French words from you is a great satisfaction, a kind of wink ... and no worry with translator ...
However, I hope to be understandable and readable from you ...

For you, the trio back side ..

I roughly used up the opportunities to find Racing spare parts here, in France ...
Any idea, suggestion about private dealers, workshops or previous owners I could deal with ??

My own bibliography regarding the 851/888 generation is now important. Main part of my docs provide from French, German books or European technical press.
My permanent searches don't offer opportunities to find original docs about the US. model, I mean 888 SPO.

I'd appreciate if some of you agree to provide pics or Docs throughout private e-mail adress...

Philippe
