My last track day in Europe before I moved back to the land of milk and honey

This was at Spa.....sad sad day, knowing I probably would never be back...

Red face

I thought I should post these here, especially since the "legs" are from a fellow racer and frequent member here (thanks Ben !).

These are from my last track day back in November. I just had finished a lot of things on my bike (new suspension front and back, new front calipers, brake lines f & r, new lighter rims --> best money ever spent too !!! and a few other bits and stuff).
Anyway, I was at the track for a 3-day track day and my intention was to first of all set the bike's suspension and then try to attack my times.
I had spent half of the first day just to set up the front end and the rest of the day to set up the rear and also found a good peg position (new pegs).
Soooo, first day was mostly spent going in and out of the pits. Not a bad thing when you get results you like though .
Unfortunately enough, a little before the end of day1, I went out on my worn tyres (they had a race in them from August, and I was just using them for the set-up session) and since I had the suspension just perfectly dialed in.... well I had a nice high speed low side on turn 3.
Hopefully the sliders (fork, swingarm and frame) did what they were supposed to do and I got away with a broken clip-on, a lever less and a broken left peg. Not bad I'd say, not bad at all. Oh and some damage on the left fairing (repairable though).
On to the pics then and sorry for the lengthy intro . But at least a new lesson learned: DON'T use worn tyres, not even at "set-up/try-out" sessions. I wasn't even at the slightest pushing for a time then but anyway... lesson learned

Hope you enjoy.

I really like how the bike turned out this "spring"...

Btw thanks for rubbing the good weather in. Argh. I want to ride.

Did the laptimes drop with the new stuff? Did you get magnesium wheels?

As a matter of fact, I'll be picking my bike from my mechanic tomorrow actually It's been with him since November after I crashed. I spent all of the December to source spare parts etc and the fairings were just ready last Friday, so tomorrow she'll be whole again

Don't get jealous Ben , the weather over here this season has been crazy... November and early December was up in the 20''s Celcius and since new year it's been damp and raining most of the time...
As for riding... don't even ask.... I did my last race in August, then the above mentioned track day and since that... nada, nothing, nichts Next track day will be early March I guess, along with my first (fingers crossed...) race for the Northern Greece Cup.

I did got forged mag rims yes. And man what a difference !!!I remember that when I received them and went to install them I though to myself that (especially) the front one was a joke or a fake rim or something... Simply put great difference !
As for the times, as I said, I didn't had the chance to test thanks to my low-side, but consider this: I checked my times after my crash (had 2 days at the track and all I could do was stare at my friends riding...) and to my surprise all the "set-up" and "try this and try that" laps were just 1''-1,5'' off my best lap there !!! Magic ! I'm pretty sure I can knock off 2sec's when I try next time, maybe more. We'll see soon :-)

ANd here's a "racing incident" for you Ben

Lost a place on final lap here... he was chasing for the last 3-4 laps and I was exhausted (40C air temp, mid August). Lined me up after the slowest corner and put his front wheel by my side entering the "S"

Had to brake really hard... and almost went off the track there missing the corner...

But really nice pictures. I like your 999 a lot. Cool bike. And the Arai helmet is cool as well

I really miss the sunshine and the track as I won´t be there for quite some time (studying ).

Pictures of a better world.

Your turn again!

Yeap, but it "was" a nice helmet , it also took a major blow on that low-side. Save my old head though .

And just to make me happy, like "saved by the bell" kind of thing, I just received my new Arai about a couple of hours ago! It's the previous Nicky scheme (mrgrn will be furious I know )

Fine by me, but it will be "old" pics since I won't get to the track for more than a month. Anyway, enjoy some that are not exactly track photos but more like "before the track"

This is just a few days before my last track day, installing your suspension parts among lots of other bits all around me beloved 999 and also checking and servicing things after the 6h endurance race we did.

The picture of the 999 on the work bench made me sigh... it´s still cold and even if it will become warmer the next 3 weeks, I can´t ride. My bike is in pieces and I have exams til the 18th. If you find a heavily drunk German somewhere around Hannover after the 18th, babbling random stuff about magnesium swingarms, call my wife or drop me off at my flat.

I got a good one for you too.

Oschersleben, when I met molasses, 4h endurance rain. Soaking wet at first, then drying conditions.

I think I invented a new rear tyre style. I call it slain - slick and rain in one.
