Default Are you still enjoying the HyperMotard?

Hello all,

How is everyone getting on with their HyperMotard? The reason I ask is because my car engine just went and I have been longing to get back to riding a Duck and the HyperMotard is just so sweet looking. Does any body commute to work? I have approximatley 20 minute car ride to work down in sunny florida. The only problem down here are the roads...way to straight.

Thanks for the comments.

Scott

yes, i still enjoy mine, but some of it stems from the fact that it's not my only bike. the HMs shares time with my 900ss sp and the two are simply night and day from one another. the other issue i sometimes contend with is that i grew up riding sport/super bikes and the notion of sitting upright is still very new to me but i think it's what keeps me in the hunt. the bike is so much fun around town and in the local foothills but it does become a bit tiresome on the freeway at higher speeds. i cannot stress how fun it is to ride and it's due to how different the bike is from most out there. it's fast, torquey, easy to manuever, and truly comfortable. its design is not like many out there. so far i've been choosing it over my 900ss sp perhaps because of its newness and my reluctance to put too many miles on SS. it does so many things well and one of them is putting a big grin on my face each time i take her out.

fun fun fun.

good luck

the hym1100 is a blast to own and ride ... commuting is as fun as you want to make it ... even straight roads can be fun, if you keep the front wheel up in the air.

Ive put 3K on one in 2 months, just riding and playing. Although i dont commute to work on a bike, i think you wont be disappointed. Never-get-tired riding position is hard to put away for the night.

I hate mine or let me better say that I hate riding it in Florida because it could be so much fun if I would find some nice roads once so guess I would have to say I love the bike but not the roads down here.

These roads are awful. Way to straight. I am originally from Mass and the backroad riding up in New England is great. Would like to get out to california and ride those mountain trails.

Default HM vs 950SM vs 990SD

Like you, i am looking at the HM, preferably the 1100S. Yesterday, i test rode it for the first time on a bumpy, twisty road. It was a "guided" test ride as the dealer has had trouble with a few run-offs, as well as get-offs. The guide was on the KTM950SM. Half way, we switched. Honestly, and i am ducati partial (999s, 996, ST4S, SS900SP, 888SPO, M1000S), the KTM seemed better "seat of the pants" wise. The suspension was noticeably more compliant, without being soft. The riding position, seat height, bar height, all felt similar, but the HM seat (or geometry) made you feel like you were sliding fw on the tank. So, overall, and especially if there is commuting involved, i would choose the KTM. Cost savings there as well. The demo here is going for $11.5K. I did not ride the KTM990SD, but will go back and try that against the 950SM. On paper, there are some significant diffs between the SM and SD: seat height, final drive, steering head angle, suspension travel, 20lbs of weight, to mention a few. I am guessing the SD in more monsterish without having tried it yet. Have one, so am leaning SM or HM. Anybody else have some comparison thoughts between these bikes? Stevo

If it was mostly just a seat thing keep in mind there are 3 different seats for the HYM and it may just have been the seat which was on the one you tested. The DP race saddle, the DP lower height saddle and the stock one all feel a good bit different from each other.
