Default what is secret sauce to get rear break to work?

ciao a tutti -

just picked up my hypermotard (standard model) today, and am having a blast putting break-in miles on it.

love everything about the bike, except am not too sure about the rear brake. this is my 4th duc, so i am aware duc rear brakes traditionally do not work ... but have read from other hyper owners that their bike's rear brake can lock up the rear. i will try bleading the system, and cleaning the rotor with brake cleaner ... but am wondering if there is some trick to get it to work well. right now, it seems like a foot rest .... can't get rear to even get close to locking.

con molto rispetto,
johnc

Heya John, just give it a little time and gunge to take the shiny edge off and it should sweeten up pretty quickly along with actually using it, on Mal the more I used it the better it became to the point where I can lock the rear easily.

ciao a tutti -

the rear brake is now functioning well. did not need to bleed the lne, just cleaning off the gunk on the rotor seems to have worked.

ciao andi -

i consulted my lawyer and was willing to oblige your request, but he advised me that if i gave you my bike, and a forest in nz burned down, i might be held liable

sounds kinda fishy to me, but what do i know?

thanks again for the expert advise.

My bike had a lot of slop in the way the rear brake felt. I thought maybe it was the way the pedal is set at the factory. After moving it up a few clicks it still did not seem right. I checked the free play and it was way off.

The rear works much better now and was a big improvement.

The manual calls for 1.5 - 2 mm.
