I'm not feeling the love guys! This is what makes America great.....if your able to buy it for less and sell it for more, then you win. If the buyer feels like he's getting a good deal then who cares, he feels like he got a good deal! I hate to see anyone get taken, but when spending this amount of cash, you would think the "buyer" would be educated?

the 998R is probably the most exclusive modern Ducati ever made.
its a buyers market and if I were looking for one of these I would seriously look at his one...but 20,000 is a better fair price maybe
but they go for silly money here in japan

I know exactly what that bike is, some are merely commenting on the market value and we disagree with your number.
It is ironic that you are selling to buy an investment property because home prices have fallen so much, but don't realize high-end luxury items like a 998R have also tanked, regardless of desirability. Priced a 550 Maranello lately?
Obviously you can have an asking price of whatever you wish. You are right it would always take a certain type of buyer to purchase it from you. Unfortunately for you those same people are now used to getting serious deals as people unload toys. Welcome to deflation.
I will predict the final sale price will be closer to 19k than 24k. The only way to know is if you post the sale price when it's finished. Are you prepared to do that, genius?

fun fun
I like this.... and your probably right as the 996r and the 998r are up there with the other iconic special bikes. To correct you though... there are not a ton of 1098r's running around my man. There are a ton or 999's and 996's though. And I will toss in my bet of 18-19k final price. Although if you are a real lover like most of us here you would ride the piss out of that thing knowing the whole time you got a great deal. I bought one of my ducs for 1800 bucks (748) and I am never selling it. I have a goal of 100k miles on the dam thing and I will hit that! Taking advantage of the economy gets tiring after awhile... there is more enjoyment in the world! Like having a 998r and fukcing running it hard, powering out of the corner on turn 3 with the front end in the air knowing someday your bike like all will be plain metal again and you will be long gone. Wow... I got deep for me.

Theres a lid for every pot. There are also many and I mean many out there that consider the asking price for that bike chump change. Now its just a matter of getting the word out to the right person and it will sell for that price. Just look at the ridiculous prices for auction cars at Barrett Jackson, of course most of the boomer bidders love to see themselves outbidding their peers in front of a TV audience.
Regardless of all the other factors, the 998R is a limited production and very rare bike. Obviously not the rarest of rare, but one of the most appealing machines Ducati has ever produced. It is the pinacle of that era and the 916 body style, but it also represents the new era too.
Eventhough the design inspiration Tamburini used was the shape of a woman, I believe the 998R is the most masculine looking Ducati ever built.
Its not so much the asking price as it is the difference between that and what the market will bear price. You are talking $5K or $6K difference, again loose change for many.
Good Luck with the sale. If I were one of the "many" that bike would have its own designated spot in my garage.

Easy there sally, just 'cause reality's a bitch, don't kill the messenger. Yer asking waaaay too much for yer bike, yeah, it's "special", it's also gettin' a little long in the tooth, (3 "generations" superceeded) and the economy sucks, and....well I'll stop now, feels kinda like kicking a puppy.....As far as yer comment that I'm "on the wrong thread", you might wanna post the ad at Starbucks, the audience there may not be quite as savy there girlfriend...............
Semper Fi!

PS. Ya might throw in some Ducati "lifestyle wear" in to sweeten up the deal...(hittin up yer kneesliders with a disc sander will add to yer street cred also....)

Why does everyone get so upset over an asking price?
Last time I checked no one has to pay or sell. 50 were imported into the states so they are a bit rare here but you still have to find a buyer. Best of luck.

I agree with Foggy. Why do so many members get upset over this ad?
I don't quite see the problem...
Either you're looking for a 998R or you're not.
If you're not looking for a 998R then you either have the money or you don't. If you don't have the money or you're not in the market for a 998R then there's no need for you to worry. Leave the ad/seller alone!
The last time I checked it was still legal for a seller to set the asking price at whatever level he or she pleases...
Don't shoot the seller if you can't afford the bike. Whether he gets his asking price or not is his problem not yours!

This bike is worth what someone is willing to pay. If no one here is going to buy it then who the hell cares what he is asking. Why get involved only to try to dump on him or piss him off??
If you really want to buy the bike then make the guy an offer. To someone this bike will be worth what he is asking. it will be a tough sell and by his comments that is exactly what he wants......seems like he wants to keep it.
Anyway there is a time and a place for everything and in a few years this bike will be an easy sale at the 20+ he is looking for.
This bike will always be more special than a 1098R.

The seller is an asshole because of his asking price? I guess that makes you the god of all shitheads, huh?

I can only speak for myself, and I don't have a problem with his asking price per se, as long as he realizes that the market in general is incredibly soft. I don't expect him to lower the asking price, that is his business. The market will decide what the bike is worth. What he paid for it is irrelavent, what it is worth now is what matters.
He did come across as a bit of an arrogant prick however, his offer to allow someone the opportunity to own this bike might rub people the wrong way for sure.

Ha. I just saw your post.... Really? My bike is getting long in the tooth? I bet if I parked it next to your bike you'd re-think that comment. Don't hate because you are out classed. As far as street cred...you sound like a typical douchebag Ducati owner. Street cred? Kinda like throwing Semper Fi around to imply you are a badass. I could take you old man!....on AND off the bike. Feels like kicking a puppy? Semper Fi? Try throwing in some English lessons you jarhead.
