Default Question regarding shipping overseas

Hey y'all, I just sold some Superbike parts on eBay and a carbon front fender was won by a gentleman from Belgium. My auction listing stated that I only ship within the Continental US but apparently my bidder missed that. I wonder if any of you have shipped to Europe, or Belgium in particular, and if there are any import fees or tarrifs that I need to be aware of. I don't want to get tangled up in red tape just to sell a fender, ya know?

Thanks in advance,
Brian B.

other than the shipping costs being higher you don't need to worry about taxes or other stuff. the guy getting it will have to claim it's worth and he will pay what ever they decide.
i recently sold some fairing lowers to a guy in Denmark. he asked that i wrap them in Christmas paper and write a note stating "Don't open 'till Christmas" and put it in the box. the import people still screwed him and made him open the box, unwrap the "present" and charged him a % of what they felt the part was worth. can you imagine the monkeys at the US Post Office trying to determine the worth of some old Duc parts?
so your buyer will have to be aware that he might get zinged when he picks the stuff up and that the initial shipping will be higher than what you stated in your auction. you won't be out anything if he gets caught up in red tape because of his countries messed up postal laws. he should be aware of these laws since he lives there.

Default Your Fender

Brian.... I was the under bidder on your fender, having lost it for a measely $1. I am stuck here in Sydney, Australia with a beautiful 748 and no front fender as some little "*%$#^@" cheesehead stole it. So.... if the guys in Belgium for whatever reason, does not want it, PLEASE PLEASE email me on antkarsay@ozemail.com.au and I will definitely take it and pay for the shipping etc. Cheers. Ant

Gotta love it haven't you.

Despite "Only ship to US" your highest bidder comes from Belgium (To his credit he's not a native English speaker) and the second highest bidder comes from Australia (They have trouble with English down there too...)...

As Mikeinwi. say's the tax problem is with the winning bidder. If you wanted to be kind you could put a slightly lower value on the package (although that'd probably be illegal) and (at least with the UK) send the package via a USPS service rather than UPS Fed EX et al. When it comes here by USPS it has a lower chance of being hammered for tax and import duty.

And AntK that'd be Fritehead or Beerhead not cheesehead...

Hands down use USPS. I ship stuff to Europe all the time and nobody does it better than our postal service. Just box the part and take it to any post office, they will weigh it and tell you your options. For Global Priority Mail 4-6 day service the prices are very reasonable for the buyer and very easy for you. You will fill out a customs form that takes all of about two minutes and that's it. If you need to tell the buyer shipping costs, then box it, weigh it, and go to the USPS site and click on calculate postage. Then go to international service and all the info is right there.
