Why did you buy a 250 if you want more power and low end torque?

I had a WR426 and power wise it was great, but weight and manuevering through New England trails is too much work. I needed a smaller/lighter bike, and this was perfect except I miss the power of the WR. I want to give this 250 a little more get up and go juice and I will be happy.

Thought someone may have one and know the tricks on it.

Have you done anything at all like pipe, jetting, higher flow filter?

It's Bone Stock, First thing I will be doing is a pipe and not sure what else. Thats why the question! Jetting and a filter was an idea. I was just looking for results from any owners if these upgrades were worth it or is there something else you can do.

I heard of the throttle screw being turned out allowing the bike to rev at a higher rate. Not sure if that is a good mod to do??

Well, revving at a higher rate doesn't mean there will be more power. Singles tend to make much more power on the bottom end of the rev range rather than the top.

I'd say add a free flowing pipe, jet it properly so you have the best throttle response, and add a free flowing air filter. Basically the more fuel, and air in the combustion chamber the bigger the boom, and then the pipe will help to clear the chamber out for the next big bang.

I think that is what you should do first. A little more power and you should have better throttle response if all dialed in correctly.

You can also change gearing if you don't do a lot of fast riding. You can gear it shorter so it will feel as if it is more powerful, you will just loose some top end speed.

I have a 2006 YZ250F and my friend was riding next to me on his CBR600RR and the speedo gave us a max speed of 81 mph. Obviously that is much faster than I'll be going off road so I could re-gear for better take off. I am perfectly happy with my bike's power stock however.

You might start with proper gearing for your riding then move on to the air/fuel mods. That is just about it for the cheap and easy mods. After those you could crack open the motor and go nuts, but there would be no point really.

Has it been de-restricted? They are fairly dumbed-down in stock form. Remove the air intake restrictor, install a FMF PC4 slip-on, (spark arrestor can be added if rules require) re-jet and it will pick up about 4hp and be a lot more responsive. If you want more revs on top there is a wire mod that can be done, re-pinning a pink wire on the CDI if I recall correctly, that adds another 1000 rpm or so. If you want more low-end grunt you should look into the various overbore kits, that will help a bunch.

Check this out. I have done many of these mods on both the 250 and 450 CRF's. HRC has a "hop up" kit for the 250 & 450 "X". Basically its a different cam, Airbox mod, different jetting/needle/pilot/main, and a pipe.....with a mod also to the CDI Box. Night and day difference. When I get to work tommorrow I can get you a part number.

You could always put in one of those RPM big bore kits, that would give more power everywhere. Or there is always the KTM 250 SX-F, that thing has a heck of an engine for a 250 F, it pulls almost as hard up top as my YZ 426.
