Yes, the 800SS motor is in the S2R however the S2R features the torque limiting clutch that the SS does not have; otherwise, they're the same.
Like posted above, you can get the S2R if you prefer it and add clipons and you'd be more sporting; the SS isn't really a touring bike nor really a sport bike, it's in the middle and it does both well but the S2R (having just ridden one) is ultra cool too - it really depends on your intended use.
