You can get the geometry set correctly so the bike handles well enough. I helped my buddy with his chassis measurments when he put a 998 swinger on his 999 (don't ask me why). The chassis points are close enough that a custom shock gets everything where it needs to be. To me, the expense and effort isn't worth it, but some folks like projects.
